|
|
I'm finding it really hard to find much variation in my food now.
I can't eat wheat of cause, or barley, oats, corn, onions and capsicum (peppers) and the like. Most pasta is out too isn't it, bacause of it having wheat flour? There are a lot of things I am sensitive to.
I'm finding now that I'm GF that too many eggs are giving me the feeling that they are just sitting there....not going anywhere.
Often even eating steak or other meat causes me to gag, and nearly cough it up. It is getting hard as I'm sure I'm not eating enough to keep my energy levels up...Not that I've had any for years
I'm only new to this so could do with any suggestions. I'm in Australia, so it isn't quite so easy to find GF products. _________________ Diagnosed by blood test & biopsies Nov 2004

Hi Maggie,
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It really is a good thing tho, because now you can start the healing process!!
From what I've found the Land of OZ is pretty GF friendly. Here is one link to dining & bakeries. If you try the baked goods, let us know how they are???
I have some other links, I just have to find them
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~coeliac/dine.html
Hey I found them: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~coeliac/fav.html
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~coeliac/det.html
Do you have intolerences to the other items listed above or just wheat?? There are pastas made from Rice & Corn which are quite good. Almostl like the real thing!!!
Good luck in your GF journey! _________________ Al

Hi Aclap,
Thanks for those links. That's great. Yes, I am sensitive to those other things. I'm not sure to what extend with some of them yet, as I'm still sorting a lot of this out.
Boiled rice bloats me up, but I can handle a couple of dessertspoons of it.
So, maybe rice pasta might be ok.
I went to the dietician today, and she was actually fairly helpful. Though she doesn't specialise in CD, she's had a lot of patients with it,and keeps in close contact with the Australian Coeliac Society information updates.
She gave me a lot of literature and an application to apply for membership to the Society. So, once I get a referral from my doctor, I can go ahead and apply. Then I will be able to get heaps of help from them.
They also have get-togethers with other sufferers. It sounds like a step in the right direction. I'm more pleased than I thought I'd be with her.
She also said to start off my being GF with just working that out first. Getting to understand Coeliac Disease. Then to get my other food sensitivities worked out with the help of a specialist in that field.
So, I'm a bit happier today, and feeling a little stronger in my body after a few days where I have been aching all over, from skeleton out. I guess when we start to sort out the gluten from our bodies, then we notice our body's reactions more. Does that make sense
Thanks for all your help. It's greatly appreciated. |

Hehehe I forget to login sometimes too!!!
Glad to hear you're feeling better!!
I think your nutritionalist is probably right....work on one thing and get that nailed down and move on to the others.
Yup - tried to get connected to a support group. As nice as this cyber group is...there's nothing like real personal contact!! I wish I had a group closer than 45 min. away from me.
Hey - I have a silly question...do you guys have Outback Steakhouses down under?? It is my favorite place to eat because they have a GF menu!!!
Hang in there Maggie!! (I have a very good friend with the same name ) _________________ Al

| Surely corn is about the only thing that you can eat including corn tortilllias, corn bread etc. |

Lynda,
Sorry to hear that. It could be a couple of things:
1) It may take longer. It may take a month or 2 before you really start feeling better.
2) You may ingesting hidden gluten. Hidden gluten is gluten that may not be clearly labeled as such. Things like Modified Food Starch, Natural Flavors *may* contain gluten.
3) You may have other intolerences. Soy, Dairy...are 2 biggies. _________________ Al
