Intollerant to anything that resembles Gluten
i get a terrible reaction to almost any kind of GF subsittute for wheat flour. i've been trying some things like GF quinoa pasta and GF Rice Bread.
i only found out a few months ago that i had this condition. Sometimes i slip up by mistake. Like with oatmeal.
When i eat the above products, i get the most terrible killer gas for hours on end.
i'm wondering if it takes some time for your villi to restore before you can start to introduce these products. _________________ i am a 47 year old, married, Vegan Female. My e-mail address is Krishnasmiles@juno.com |

Yes there is!! Gluten is everywhere!! Labels must be checked very carefully
Stick with it - you'll get the hang it eventually.
I going to guess the reason you still aren't feeling much better is because of hidden gluten.
YES you can be allergic to wheat. A wheat allergy is an entirely different animal. Sometimes CD is misdiagnosed as wheat allergy. But they really are 2 seperate things.
I have had the biospies - they can back normal. So, by definition, I do not have celiac disease - yet. Research is showing that there is Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity. Where by gluten still affects you, but you dont have the intestinal damage - yet. It's very possible that it could turn into CD if gluten continues to be consumed and does damage. I know that I can not have gluten. I feel very sick. Spent 1.5 years feeling sick - until I stopped eating gluten. _________________ Al

lynda,
I know how the sudden change in our way of eating can get us down, but please don't freak out. I know it can be very unnerving. I myself have not been tested for CD,but for months I have thought I had IBS Iirritable bowel Syndrome) which mimics the symptoms of CD,plus I had the weight loss of 65 Lbs in eight months.
But everytime I ate wheat/gluten products, I would be sick for a few days.
I sure hope I did not mess up my intestines. Many times, this condition gets misdiagnosed.
I was afraid to eat,but I did. I had to eat something so I would not wither away. I was in denial. I had to stop eating wheat bread, oatmeal, flour tortillas, ,sweets with wheat flour, and raw veggies and fruits, and Popcorn... (this could be my Diverticulosis) and would cheat all the time, only to have severe stomach cramping and stomach rumblings, but you do have to READ EVERYTHING ON THE LABELS!
Yes..Marinades,BBQ sauces, salad dressings, mayonaise, peanut butter, pasta, yogurt, cookies, snacks, breads, etc., are found with some sort of allergen. Modified food starch is supposedly bad too.
Your small intestines will get better as long as you stay away from either the Wheat,Gluten,Soy,Dairy,Eggs,or anything you may have an intolerance to. I have to get an Alergy test.
Cookbooks? Bette Hagman , check out your local library. She has a few Gluten free cookbooks. Or do a search at your library for Gluten free Cookbooks.
If you have a Henry's, Whole foods, Trader Joes, close by, they would have many GF items.
Good Luck and remember it will get better. You are in very good hands on this CD site, I have learned alot from these very nice folks here, and they are willing to help you. Take care, Jim

Jim....your remark under location regarding where you live is a riot! You have a good sense of humor, which will come in handy with CD! |
