I will be attending a conference in Jackson, MS the end of January, and would GREATLY appreciate some help in restaurant selection. I've only been diagnosed Celiac for a few weeks so this is all new to me, but am extremely gluten-sensitive (glad to finally know why I was so sick!)

I know that there is an Outback there, but one person told me that out of three visits, she had two very bad experiences. Supposedly, this one location is not in keeping with the chain's usual level of support for gluten-free patrons. Or maybe others here, can give me a different picture of that same restaurant???

I've adjusted pretty quickly to gluten-free at home and am really pleased with improving health. The ONLY place I've eaten out since dx is one Outback in Memphis, TN....a very POSITIVE experience.

I know that there's a Copeland's of New Orleans very near where I'll be staying. Bob & Ruth's Newsletter highlighted them in 2003, but can't find a copy of that. I'll call the restaurant, but have never even done that before. It's all new.

Anyway, HELP!!! Jackson, Mississippi suggestions anyone? I'll be there for 3 days! Thanks!!

Hi Jaten,

Welcome to the board!! Glad to hear you are doing so well. It's always relief to get some answers. They may not be the answers you want to hear...but at least you know and can fix it!!

I'm look for Jackson, MS GF places. I would contact these people below and ask. I'm sure they would tell you.

I'm sure there are the usual chains there that would have GF options. Take a look thru our Restaurants thread if you haven't done so already.

I post more when I find them.

Thank you for your quick reply, Aklap! I have actually tried to contact L Williams and R Berry; I may get some info there.

I have learned that Jackson does also have a Bonefish Grill, so that's a great possibility. Does anyone know anything about Copeland's of New Orleans? It was a favorite Jackson restaurant prior to dx. Yeah, I'll keep digging for info and appreciate advice from anyone who has it to offer. This will be my first real journey. I know I'll take some food with me, but would also like to enjoy the "social side" of eating out with friends who will be there.

You're the absolute BEST Aklap!!! I can't wait for the possible word you get from Copeland's. Also, I'd love to know the wording you used in your e-mail. From reading these boards, I see that you have been able to offer a LOT of valid info in many situations for many people.

I was considering e-mailing the company, but not sure that as a CD Newbie I would have been able to adequately, politely express all that is needed.

It may be here somewhere, but a "How to Contact...." or "Conversations that Have Worked for Me...." FAQ or board would be awesome, especially for those of us who are new.

Thanks again for stepping up for me and for others!!!!!!!

Hi Jaten,

My mail bounced back to them. I hate when companies do not put a clear "Contact Us" section on their website. I did find a comment form and used that. I'll keep trying.

Here's the wording I used for this one. It's a rather simple one...

Hi,

I would like to know if there are any items on your menu that are gluten free or could easily be made gluten free?

I have a gluten intolerance problem called Celiac Disease. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye & oats. I can not have breads, crackers, pizzas, cookies, cakes, etc. It can be hidden in sauces, flavorings, and any number of ingredients.

Thank you for taking time to answer my question.

Al

I have seen templates of such letters...but I don't remember where. LOL!! I'll find it and post it.

By the way...don't sell yourself short...you ask for other things don't you? This is no different. I have found that if your polite in doing so, they will help you as much as possible.
