Hi all you who live south of the 49th. (or should I say "y'all")
My mother in law brought Ty back some grits to try. We can't get them in Canada, and I haven't the vaguest idea how to cook them. (Are grits a them or an it?) I've heard that some people like grits with salt and butter and others eat grits with sugar and syrup.
What's your best grits recipe?

Thanks,
Linda

Grits is a "them" thing!

Practice saying things like, "Ah lahk them thangs ev-ree mornin' fer mah breakfast!"

I lived in the south twice, for three years each time, and was married to a Southerner . . . Funny, he just visited at THanksgiving (to see our daughter and granddaughter), and asked if he could have grits for breakfast. I told him if that's what the Holiday Inn was serving, he certainly COULD have them!

Oh, what memories of everyone eating grits everywhere I went! Laughing So, yes, butter-salt-pepper, also some chop up their over easy eggs and mix the grits in . . . eww, all sorts of horrid ways. Sorry, not trying to be insulting, but I'm a Mainiac, and we don't do grits there.

Good alternative for a GF diet for sure!

I love grits. Does the box not have a basic recipe? I use the instant kind. I especially like them baked with cheese. I made a quick look for my cheese grits but couldn't find it. I am sure you can find a basic recipe on line. I will look some more tomorrow.

Hey y'all!

Yes, my (immediate) family is actually from the South (even though I am born and bred in Northern NJ!!), so I LOVE grits!! I could seriously eat them all day long!
Nowadays, with my crazy schedule, I too, utilize the instant grits (sorry Grandma!!! Embarassed ), and they come out quite well...not sure exactly how long you have to cook them from scratch, but I agree--they are absolutely delicious with cheese!!!

Good luck with your grits! They are my favorite breakfast (actually, anytime is great for grits!) food!!!

Keep smiling!

I haven't seen the box yet, Donna. She just got back the other day. I thought I'd fish around for some tried and true recipes. We'll see her this afternoon and pick up the grits then. Probably Ty will try them once and then never eat them again. He can eat the same thing forever, but he's only six, so trying to add something new that's GF can be a challenge.
