Pat, amazingly enough, my husband has good cholesterol. His cardiologist thinks he's probably not absorbing all the cholesterol due to the celiac and that's why his numbers are good. He's had diabetes for 38 years and so he's lived with a limited diet for a long time. Since the diabetes diagnosis he's avoided most carbs and sweets, but he did eat some bread and cereal. He's always been a meat and potato kind of guy, but he really missed the bread. Now that he's been on the GF diet for 24 years, he's used to living without it. I know what you mean about being away from home when a low blood sugar hits you. Charlie (hubby) says when that happens - the GF diet is out the window. Diabetes low blood sugar MUST come first. Its only happened a couple of times (on the golf course) thank goodness. Once he had to eat a sausage sandwich on a bulky roll. He was in heaven!! It didn't bother him too much, thank goodness. We try to plan for every event, but sometimes circumstances just take over. I bought him some tube sugar (not sure what its actually called) made specifically for low blood sugar and it seems to work well. Its faster acting than regular food for raising blood sugar levels. Its small enough that you could carry it in your purse. Of course, that is IF its gluten free. Its a struggle and balancing act every day, but I think I finally (after all these years) have it on the run! This forum has been a huge help. _________________ Judy
