Yasmine, just wanted to add my "hello" to the boards and to say that you definitely sound like you are celiac. I'm excited that you are going to go gluten free. Give it some time but you will start feeling better within a short time. In the first month that I went gluten free, I lost my acid reflux, many of my IBS symptoms, and my lactose intolerance. I'm still very tired a lot of the time, but I've only been gluten free since the end of July this year. Better and stronger days are ahead! Just wanted to encourage you in your gluten free eating. It is SO worth doing. Even though they have not been able to diagnosis me through testing, I will not return to eating gluten ever again. Just don't want to go back to feeling so lousy all the time. Praying that you will be successful in eating gluten free. Blessings of hope and good health to you.

Thank you for the support. It won't be quite so hard, I think, as it is for someone who's never had to deal with food allergies. I'm used to not eating wheat products, don't like rye...I'll miss the oats but eh...

Yesterday I cleaned out the food cupboards (as in took everything out, washed it down, got rid of anything my husband won't eat that has gluten and put the oatmeal in plastic bags so there won't be dust in the air). Today we're washing all the silverware/cookware and cleaning out those drawers. This weekend, we'll wash every pot and pan and dish in the house and clean out those cupboards while they're in the dishwasher.

Anyway, thank you and nice to meet you.
Yasmine

Do you think it's possible to be both allergic to wheat (because I was diagnosed as that), AND have CD? I've been thinking one or the other, but it just occurred to me that they might be concurrent.

Many times CD is often misdiagnosed as wheat allergy. I suppose it might be possible to have both - I've never really looked in to that.

Below I have included the celiac blood panel tests.

A complete Celiac Blood Panel:

antigliadin IgA and IgG
(May indicate Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity)
anti-tTG and/or anti-endomysial (Looks for villi damage)
total serum IgA (rules out IgA deficiency)
anti-reticulin IgA (Rarely used but, a very thorough doctor will include this)

More on Diagnostic Testing

Quote:
Testing for CD through a blood test is apparently very difficult, and often, a PCP may not know the exact test(s) to request (in fact, even if it comes back positive for CD, a good gastroenterologist will only definitively diagnose you after doing an endoscopy with biopsy)

I have some things to say to this...but I have run out of time Smile I'll be back Very Happy

Just a hint of where I'm going Wink

Hi all,
I'm new to the group too! I am the mom of a celiac teen. She just turned 15. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 12 and then celiac disease the following year. Luckily they found it through an annual bloodwork screen as she had no symptoms. I feel very lucky that we found it so quickly after reading how difficult it was for some of you to be diagnosed. I thought we'd made it through this year without a new diagnosis, but my 6 year-old was just diagnosed with asthma this month. I also have a 13 year old with eczema. Kind of makes me wonder going on with the genes! Smile
Anyway, just wanted to say 'hi' and let you know that this forum is wonderful! I've learned so much by reading the posts! Thank you!!
