|
|
We spent the morning at Children's Hospital in Seattle yesterday for my 6 year old son's endoscopy. He was very brave, and was fine until they gave him the gas to sedate him. We had a little freakout there, but it was over pretty quickly. I cried after he went under, but I don't think he saw.
The results definitely show celiac damage. He actually has some "pseodo-polyps" in his stomach, which the doctor thinks are due to the constant irritation fron gluten. She thinks that they will go away after he is not eating gluten anymore. His villi also show damage. She did take several samples to analyze and we will have the results in a week or so. But she said not to wait for the results. From what she saw we should definitely start the GF diet for him right away.
I think this diagnosis is harder to take than my own was. We are trying to put a positive spin on things for him, though. He and my daughter spread out their halloween candy and he swapped away his Milky Ways and Crunch bars and Twix bars for some of his sister's candy. I think everyone was happy with that.
Anyway, thanks for letting me share the results. I'm sure I will have lots of questions about people handle kids and Celiac. _________________ -Colleen

Hi Colleen,
Thanks for sharing! I am sorry that he has CD, but this really is a blessing! You know now and can take the proper steps. This can stop a whole host of other auto-immune issues that couldve happened otherwise.
I would continue to test DD and others in your family. 1 negative test does not clear you for life.
If wish you well...we will help in any way we can! _________________ Al

| Keep cupcakes in the freezer for those last minute birthday party invites and find another celiac kid for your son to befriend. My best advice from one celiac mom to another. |

SO sorry to hear this, but happy that you have a diagnosis, and know exactly what to do! Yes, best to be diagnosed and avoid all the damage and problems that come with NOT being diagnosed in a timely fashion . . .
Hang in there,

Hi cruelshoes!
I'm sorrry that your son has CD. I am very happy that they finally found something! Closure is one of the best things, IMO.
Take care!
