Hi everyone
I'm writing this on behalf of my wife who is 29
Over the last few months, she has been getting tingling, numbness and burning in face, hands and feets as well as muscle twitching.
She is very concerned that she may have MS but I was wondering if she may have Coeliac because recently she has been getting stomach ache after eating bread or other wheat based products such as pizza and I read that the neuro symptoms listed above can be produced by coeliac
So a few questions...
a). Is Coeliac something that can just develop at any time in life
b). Can the symptoms come in patches - ie go a while without any and then get a batch of them together
c). Is it something that is shared in family genes as her sister also has gluten intolerance
Many thanks for any assistance offered.

Yes, usually it has a trigger -- it varies from person to person. SOme develop it as a child, others much later in life.

This I couldn't say . . . although depending on the strength of the immune system, it could become more and less symptomatic.

Oh yes, it's genetic. SOrry to be the bearer of bad news . . .
Let us know how she is, and have her get tested? We're here . . .

Thanks - much appreciated
She hasn't said anything to the doctor yet about possible coeliac/gluten issue because she wants to be refered for the ms tests for peace of mind and she's worried the doctor would just go ' oh yeah must be food intolerance and then not refer her for the ms tests. |

Hi Goodisonblue,
Welcome to the board!! It very caring of you to be doing research on your wifes behalf!!
Often times CD is misdiagnosed as MS - so keep CD in the back of your mind. Heck - even in the forefront
The numbness & tingling can also be b12 deficency. Here some more B12 Info What she maybe experiencing is called Peripheral Neuropathy. I have this...and it is not exactly fun. I am sorry you wife must deal with this.
Also see Our thread on The Gluten File and Neurological Manifestations of Gluten Sensitivity.
I don't think you'll have to worry about having the food intolerances tested BEFORE anything else. Most times they are never looked at or are the very last things. Often dismissed as bogus or "it's all in your head".
Good luck in your knowledge quest!!
Judging by your spelling of Celiac...you must be "across the pond" _________________ Al

Hi Aklap
Thanks for reply and very interesting links.
Yes we are from the Uk
She is a vegetarian so we did consider a B12 deficency but her doctor said she would be getting the tingling all the time then, rather than in patches so not too sure about that |

My Dr got me handicap tags & handicap parking spot in front of my house. can't park in my driveway it is very steep can't walk it. |
