My wife and I are planning a 40th anniversary trip this summer. We are looking at an Alaskan cruise-tour combination. This will be our first cruise, but we are really interested in visiting Alaska. Does anybody have any experiences eating gluten free on such a trip?

Hi Dennis,

Welcome to the board!!

What fun! What a nice way to spend an anniversary.

I have not been on a cruise since I've been GF. What cruise line are you thinking about? I would contact that cruise line and ask about their policies for dietary requirements. I suspect most would be quite accomodating...they just need to know in advance.

One friend went on a cruise and they were VERY accomodating...I can't remember the which line it was. It was one of the biggies...I'm drawing a blank right now. If you look thru our Travel forum you might find some suggestions. I can do a bit more research later...stupid work is getting in the way... Very Happy LOL.

Good luck!! I hope you'll stop back and tell us how the cruise went Smile

Dennis.......check out, www.bobandruths.com. They are a travel group that caters to people with Celiac's. I have checked them out before and the trips look awesome. They have an Alaskan cruise listed for this May/June and it's GF all the way so that would make it easier than having to do the work with ensuring you can get good GF on a more mainstream cruise. Never travelled through them before but am curious and willing to do so in future.

Happy Anniversary to you also....40 years! Good job! Very Happy

Contact Alaska Sightseeing West based in Seattle. They are small ships that can get into out-of-the-way places, see alot, don't require dressing up , and have a couple of chefs on each cruise that really get to know the people aboard the ship. I've travelled with them twice, and once when they served a soup I couldn't eat they made me a special lentil soup. I think the chef was saving it for himself, because when other people saw it they all wanted it, and the chef didn't look real happy.

It was a wonderful experience both times.
