The following is an email from Cineplex Odeon Theatres (Canada) in response to my question about the "natural flavours and spices" on the ingredient list on the bag of popcorn salt. There was no allergy info provided with the salt. The young man at the concession was great, got me the allergy info for the butter and topping and when he couldn't find an info sheet for the salt, he brought me the 10kg bag that had the ingredient list on. Then he directed me to the manager to get more information, and she said, "If I were you, I just wouldn't eat the popcorn."

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us here at Cineplex Entertainment. First and foremost, I would like to apologize for the late reply. However, with your e-mail, we wanted to get the proper amount of information before we contacted you.

On your behalf, we spent quite a bit of time trying to determine what constituted the vague ingredient list of our popping salt. According to the company who supplies the product, “Natural spice extracts” include: Annatto and Turmeric.

Further, here is a list of ingredient categories.

INGREDIENT CATEGORY YES NO INGREDIENT CATEGORY YES NO
Animal Fat & Oils X Nuts X
Wheat Product X Seeds X
Milk Product X Fish & Shellfish X
Egg Product X Sulphites X
Soy Product X Tartrazine X
Corn Product X MSG X
Peanuts X

(I don't think the table I made will work according to the post preview, so I will say that they are all NOs, except a YES for Tartrazine)

From what little I know of gluten, I believe this would indicate that the popping salt is safe for consumption. I realize that your e-mail also had a suggestion about posting this, and other nutritional information, and I will pass this suggestion on to our marketing department, however, I wanted to send this to you for your own personal information.

If you require any further information on this product, please do not hesitate to write me. Thank you again for your suggestion, and take care.

Regards,

Ed Staples
