This confused me a lot and I was not able to get any concrete info off the internet.

I wrote Old Wisconsin and they replied today that it was not from milk protein.

Thought the rest of you might want to know!

Hi Carole,

This might explain it a bit...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactic_acid

Lactic acid in food
Lactic acid is used in a variety of foodstuffs to act as an acidity regulator. Although it can be fermented from lactose (milk sugar), most commercially used lactic acid is derived by using bacteria such as Bascillus acidilacti, Lactobascillus delbueckii or L. bulgaricuswhey to ferment carbohydrates from sources such as cornstarch, potatoes or molasses. Thus, although it is commonly known as "milk acid", products claiming to be vegetarian or vegan do sometimes feature lactic acid as an ingedient.

Hehehehe Thanks Nonnie Carole!!

I used to be a runner in my younger days. I knew that lactic acid can/could/would/DID build up in my muscles as I ran...so I figured what they were telling was correct.

I DIDN"T know how it was mfg for food...interesting...

As always...google is my not-so-secret weapon. The Wiki entry was 2nd on the list.

Glad I could help!! Now...please...get up off your knees and stop bowing to me! Laughing Laughing Laughing I'm just an ordinary average guy.
