I couldn't believe our gas bill yesterday. Last year at this time are bill was about $100. Yesterday our bill was $289. We have had a rather warm winter with many days in the 60's. We have had one light snow dusting. I can't imagine what you guys are paying where it is really cold. What is really frustrating is last Nov. 04 we put in all new quantum windows. We wondered a little if there was a chance we have a leak. Almost hope so but than I think what is that going to cost. Ok, I am just venting, grrrrrr Now I can move on

Just opened my gas bill. I was happy to see it was $106.00. This is half what it was last time due to a warm Jan. here in Pittsburgh.

Hey all,

Let me share my story of horrific heating/energy bills...
Last December is when I bought my house--a 1938 Victorian/colonial...um, it had NO insulation when I moved in, NONE!! Yeah, it's one of those balloon-frame houses...
So, there we were, my chubby cat and I, curling up in layers of sweatshirts every night, just trying to stay warm.

Needless to say, my first heating/energy bill from PSE&G was roughly $600. Yes, $600! Shocked I almost fell of the couch when I opened the envelope!!!
So, this past September, I got insulation blown into the house, and it has GREATLY reduced my energy bills! They're still a bit higher than you guys, but I'm *not* complaining!! Wink

I don't want to make anyone jealous, and maybe I shouldn't post because no one will like me after this . . . but I don't have to deal with this, fortunately.

I rent a 2 BR house (with a HUGE fenced backyard) on the university where I work, and for $515 a month, it includes electric, water, gas, cable, phone, wireless Internet, and all yard work (mowing, etc). And with what AC bills would be here in the desert Southwest in summer, well, it's a deal. The thought of going back to the Northeast next fall scares me, in regard to heating bills, and in general a higher cost of living once again.

FOr now, though, I'm enjoying saving lots of money!

P.S. Like DOnna, we've had lots of warm days this winter (60's most days), but I just watched the 5-day forecast, and it'll be 74 on Sunday. No wonder I'm always tan -- walking my 4 miles a day in this weather!

We live in a big turn of the century victorian house with very little to no insulation... We're on a gas budget and our payments are $240 per month for 10 months a year. I opened my electric bill yesterday and nearly croaked! It was nearly double last month's - $260. I think it's because of the Christmas lights and my husband has a mini-green house thing in the basement. YIKES!!!

We lived in a turn-of-the-century house back in Maine, and when we tore out some walls during remodeling, there was crunched-up newspaper in the walls for insulation! (And very little of it, I might add!)

74 degrees on Sunday Question Question
In February Question Question
On Super Bowl Sunday Question Question
Ah, Lexi, I am *so* jealous!!!
We've had a relatively "mild" winter here in NJ, but not in the 60s and 70s!! Today, the high is 60, but it's absolutely disgusting out--rainy and super humid...blecch! Mad
I don't tan (at all!), but if I was out there by you, I'd be one giant freckle!!! Laughing
Enjoy the warm winter! Wink

Yes, my ex- lives in Newark -- he often reminds me of what I'm missing back East.

ANd freckles? I have a zillion of them, but they don't show as much through the tan. When it fades a bit though, they show up! It's the Irish and ENglish in me, I'm sure.

I just heard on our local news that we are expecting a whopper of a wind storm on Saturday. In some places winds of 70mph are expected. They said to pick up anything that could be picked up by the wind and get this....prepare for sever power outages from downed power lines. POWER OUTAGES the day before superbowl, here in Washington. That would just be cruel. Mad

Oh, wow--Newark is about 30 minutes from me...we were just at the airport last weekend, actually! Surprised
It's funny--I'm not even Irish! Laughing The closest thing to Irish that's a *teeny* part of me is Welsh (my maternal grandfather's parents). My dad's side--they're German (but way far back--at this point, I am pretty much a mutt! Razz )
But hey, St. Patty's Day is coming up, so I can play the part of a leprechaun pretty well. Everyone assumes I'm Irish, so hey, I'll play along with that! Wink

I was in Phoenix when it was 113 last year. I'll deal with the winters here. I can not stand that hot weather!

We get about 115 here most days in summer . . . and Phoenix gets a LOT hotter -- 120 is common in summer. I know it sounds funny to someone not living around here, but I couldn't take PHoenix, but can tolerate it here. But oh, the winters . . . I never miss a day of walking. I'm a sunshine fanatic, too, and we get 350 days of sunshine a year here. We literally never see a cloud for months sometimes.
