I can only lock threads- not forums. I wish I could lock forums. I wanted to do that during the great spam attack - but could not.
Sure, we I think we can agree to that, but new users might not always follow the rules (just because they are new). They would just have to be moved out in to the "general population" if that's the case. Hence my need for getting a good description.
I guess that description could be left general, but have a post in the TnT folder explaining the concept. That way we (as a group) can change that. As opposed the the text that Admin puts in. We'd have to bug him in order to change that. _________________ Al

Al,
You're right about the title needing a good description to follow or else the folder will be filled with requests for TNT recipes. Before we ask Admin to create a new folder we should get our ducks in a row. More to follow...

Hey Everybody,
It seems as if a TNT folder is a definite possibility as you may have read above. WE as a group need to decide how we want to determine which recipes can be housed in the TNT folder. Someone mentioned 'zaars method of using stars and I mentioned the method of different people making the recipe and nominating it in to the TNT folder, but I think the best thing to do is to keep the process simple.
This is an outspoken group of people, let's discuss how recipes get into the TNT folder.
Here are my thoughts...
Since this community is rather small, my instinct is that the recipes should be tried and nominated into the TNT folder by one (or maybe two) people. Of course both people would have to have exceptional results. Those gluten free and gluten eating must both really like the finished recipe.
Of course location, cooking styles, different brands of flours/starch, varying ways of meausuring ingredients will cause each of us to have slightly different outcomes, but with a TNT designation at least we know that one person has had great results.

Why not use a voting system? Post a recipe with a vote attached. If it gets over X number of positive votes, it can get moved into the TNT forum. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

I understand the concept of all this. I have not paid much attention to any ratings to some of the sites I've been to.
I have a concern that someone might get hurt if their recipe [which they feel is really really good] doesn't get into TNT.
Hmmmmmm.....still thinking.... _________________ Al

I understand, and like TEC said, there can always be problems. That's why everybody should be able to vote. With enough votes you can (hopefully) get a pretty good idea if it's TNT or not. Or maybe the recipe just needs some tweaking before being TNT; the feedback would help. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Ostrich,
I just want to clarify...When you wrote "That's why everybody should be able to vote." You meant that everyone who tried the recipe should vote, correct? When you say have people vote on the recipe and when I say have the recipe nominated into TNT I think in essence we're talking about the same thing. This community is rather small and it doesn't appear to me that a huge percentage of people make the recipes that are posted so I'm wondering how many votes/nomination should it take for a recipe to be moved to TNT. At this point I'm thinking two, but ...
Al,
If I make a recipe and I thought it was terrible, I wouldn't mention it on the board as I wouldn't want to hurt someone's feelings. Now if someone made the same recipe and raved about it, I personally would try it again and then make a kid-glove comment if I got a similar outcome. Giving a recipe TNT status can be a delicate situation because people are proud of their recipes and they generally only post their best.

Yup, that's what I was talking about TEC, sorry for any confusion.
I really wouldn't worry about people getting their feelings hurt. I think we're a fairly calm group...if there's a recipe that doesn't work, I don't think sombody's going to "flame" it. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

I didn't expect anyone to come out with "That tastes like ________!!!". But I could see it being a subtle disappointment if their "best" recipe didn't make it.
For me personally...It really wouldn't bother me. I know I have different tastes. What I think is really great, maybe some else's dog food. Heck...Hamburger Helper was one of my faves BGF (now we just make risotto and add hamburger - probably better for ya anyway).
As I said, I understand the concept of wanting to know that the recipe you are about to try is not a waste of ________________ ( cuz sometimes that ____________ can be expensive). I guess as long as everyone agrees to "play by the rules - it works for me".
I think a voting system would be fine. If you get 2 Healthy Villi's - you're in! LOL. But if you get a "Marsh 3 lesion" - it aint gonna fly.
One other housekeeping task. I have been thinking about this for awhile. It'd be nice to some type of order or classification to the recipes. Like broad categories like Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Dessert, etc...or whatever... _________________ Al

I agree with the need for a system to group the recipes. Why not different sticky threads within the TNT forum? That way people could still post comments in the regular threads, and recipes that pass can go in the stickies. That'll also help people find what recipes they need.  _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

| I think this sounds like a wonderful idea, I've come up with some cake recipes that I like but would really appreciate some tips with breads. As someone new to this if three people had tested a recipe and declared it delicious I would be happy to try it. |

Al,
2 Healthy Villis it is! I think you're right about having sub-categories if it is at all possible. It would make finding recipes a lot easier. I would be willing to help sort all of the recipes already posted.
Another thing...there are a few recipe of Duchess', DKAD's and Mrs. Ps that I asked them to post and I've been planning on making since March or April, but still haven't gotten around to making them yet. My point is that it may take a while (weeks/months/heck even a year) for 2 people to make the recipe and report back. TNT is not going to be an immediate thing.
Ostrich,
Once a recipe has achieved TNT status then I think the whole thread should be moved to the TNT folder. Once in the TNT folder though I think future postings should be related to the recipe and not idle chit chat. Thoughts?
Rinne,
Let's see some of those cake recipes! There are some bread bakers on the board, of which I am not one. I stick with rolls, cakes, cookies, etc. With the little amount of bread that I eat I'm quite content with Whole Foods Bake House bread. Now if someone posted a TNT baguette recipe I would try that immediately.
I'm with you I'm more apt to try a recipe that others have tried and deemed delicious then I am to try a random recipe.

Hmmm, I think it'll be hard to weed out the "idle chitchat". The only thing I can think of is locking the thread once it's TNT established, but then you coudn't get any feedback on the recipe... _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

We can set up a "Comments on TNT" thread. Like I have the Paths to GF-dom Thread and then the Comments on Paths to GF-dom.
Our Path's to Gluten Free-dom Thread _________________ Al

That might work. People could always link to the recipe they're asking about.  _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={
