aklap, that's fantastic. I work right around the corner from a Texas Roadhouse. The one that Willie Nelson is a part owner in, interestingly enough!

It's also funny, because my restaurant has almost the same menu, but almost NOTHING is GF...

Cool!!! Say HI to Willie for me Very Happy

Maybe you need to convince your restaurant to "clean things up a bit"? Smile If the cross contamination issues are dealt with...they could have quite a following with the CD crowd. I will travel for GF food...my favorite restaurant (Outback) is 45 min away from me. The Texas Roadhouse is in that same town.

I'm on the east coast but I'm in NYC and there aren't too many big chains here and the ones that are here cater mostly to turists and are priced accordingly. Fast food does fine here but not real restaurants.

I'm probably one of the only Americans to have never stepped foot in a Walmart.
Prices at the Outback are more than twice as high as what I've seen in other states. If I'm going to pay that money I'm going to the post house. A steak that expensive shouldn't need any tampering with anyway! Laughing

rumor has it if you go to the Olive Garden NOT during peak hours you can bring your own pasta and they will try to help ya out. Make sure they bring ya a crouton free salad. I'd call before heading over and see what they have to say. I've avoided my local one because when I called they were not so accomadating.

I'm doing dinner tomorrow night with 2 of my brothers, a past and probably future sister in law and her daughter at a japanese steak house. I'm not too happy yet experimenting at an unfamiliar restaurant but I figure I can do well at a japanese steak house and they agreed to change their plans on my behalf.

Just a few weeks ago I would have never exerted the effort to go "all the way out to NJ" to go out to dinner. Very often got sick while eating... never knew why... I thought I was doing it to myself!

A lot of my anxieties revolved around social situations and going out to eat with other people, even family was a biggie for me.

After the first time I got sick at dinner I started to feel anxieties about it happening again. I looked like crap all the time with bulging and yet puffy 1/2 open eyes and major face bloat... huge bags under my eyes... I couldn;t hide being sick and I DID NOT WANT TO DISCUSS IT WITH ANYONE. Asking how I felt could really tick me off.

Fighting anxieties and insecurities revolving my health...
Very embarrasing when you are out on a date bragging about how hungry you are. Order dinner... a steak or something.
Start on the salad or bread or whatever and you start sweating profusely... head starts to spin a bit, heartburn starts kicking in and you suddenly feel like you will need to either vomit or sneeze 20,000 times. Its a weird feeling and you don't know what is up. You excuse yourself to the bathroom to try to recompose yourself.
Nice big steak comes and you nibble on 1 bite but even though you still feel hungry you have lost your appetite.
Try to explain that to someone you want to......
Better yet... try to explain that to your mother whom you are already angry at for being too worried about me as it is.
Or throw in a stone stuck in a salivary duct because you don't have enough saliva...

Once that happened once, it seemed to become a self fullfilling prophecy triggered by my demented anxieties. I thought I was crazy!
This is a new life for me...

Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anyone had any good experiences with eateries in the NYC metro area. I work in NYC, but I live in Jersey, so any recommendations in that vicinty would be great! I was just diagnosed this past summer, so I'm still pretty new to all of this! Embarassed
Also, in light of yesterday's festivities, can anyone tell me if there is any corned beef out there that is GF? I was a little bummed out--this was the first St. Patty's Day EVER that I didn't have corned beef & cabbage. Sad
I really appreciate any help you guys could provide.
Thanks so much and have a wonderful weekend!! Smile

I just discovered this web site and am sooo happy! My husband and I are going to New York City soon, for the first time, to celebrate our 31st anniversary. I was feeling a little sorry for myself knowing I would have to skip some great meals and stick to salads . . . and lo and behold you posted that link with a whole list of NYC restaurants! What wonderful timing! Thank you so much!
