Donna,
We've had our differences lately, but know that you can't be responsible for the actions of others. It seems to me that no one is holding you accountable for what Beth did. We can guide and encourage other people, but they will ultimately do what they want.

Perhaps changing your password may stop Beth from posting as you. No need to have a heartattack over something as small as this.

Ditto!! Thanks TEC!!

Al,
I'm still confused. Is GFP opposed to putting the measures in place that will help protect against spam? It seems to me the spam would be drastically reduced if 'guest' posting priviledges were revoked and everyone had to create an account with a valid email. Another thing that may help is if a person couldn't post for a period of 24 hours or so after creating an account. Just some thoughts on the matter. Who do we send an email to at GFP?

There's so much spam here now please don't waste your time cleaning it up until the situation is resolved. 10-15 seconds for deleting one post...that's a lot of time.
TEC

I don't think GFP is opposed to doing it. I can not say EXACTLY why this has not been done. I have a few suspicions - but that's all they are and I will not voice them publicly - yet.

Yes all those options would clear up much of the problem.

You can PM user ADMIN. He usually stops in every couple of days. I do see him in most Mondays. I suspect he will have an overflowing PM box LOL.

There's also a number & a person to call. Donna & I have called several times. I'd have to look for the name and number. Donna just might have it on her speed dial!! Smile Very Happy Laughing We do also have admin's email too. I could PM that to you if some hasn't done so already. I don't want to include it in a public post just for security sake.

Al,
If the group moved to another site due to the spam would all of the previous threads be lost? Can all of it be backed up and moved? I wish I was more techliterate at times like these.

There's so much good information here in the archives. I would hate to lose it all. If GFP is willing to put some posting restrictions in place, I would be willing to help clean-up the site. Perhaps some of us could have moderator priviledges for a few hours in order to do some much needed spring cleaning.

TEC

Hi TEC,

yes, I'd have to pull the really important stuff. It's a huge task. We wrestled with that over at Braintalk (that's even a BIGGER task!).

My biggest fear is that GFP will shut down the site BEFORE I have a chance to get the good stuff off. If that would happen...I don't know...it's just a fear.

Yup, it would take many "mods" to clean this place up. Maybe assign 2 or 3 people each a forum or 2 and go at it.

I would vote to continue to stay here even with people posting spam for super diet pills, porn links, and other junk. I am able to tell at a glance that those posts have nothing to do with gluten free eating and I don't click on them.

I hope they do put some reasonable restrictions on accounts and posting here like you must register and log in to post, and an email reply to confirm your account. The site should be able to ban IP addresses if the account is being abused. There should also be some sort of review process to allow a member to reapply after being banned if the unwanted actions stop and stay gone.

Al, it stinks that you are spending so much time removing these links and junk.

Hi Paw,

I too want to stay here. I want it linked to a great company like GFP/Glutino. Their products are great! (IMHO). But I feel all the spam absolutely KILLS our credibility!! I think it was Jeannine that said she knew doctors where being refered to this site. Internet research in the medical community has a bad enough stigma attached to it...then to add all this cr@p on top of it?? Ugggggh

As for the IP addresses...it would be near impossble to block them - for spammers. Many times they will use methods to hide their real IP addresses. Many times they come from many many different IP address. Spam is designed to be difficult to deal with. Same with Adware/spyware on your machine. It's meant to stay on your machine - that's why it's horrendous to remove it. They don't make it easy. We can spend up to (and over) 4 hrs removing this from a customers machine. Shocked

Yeah it does suck...but hey...like admin said to me..."You asked for it, you got it!". I'll do what it takes. I won't complain about removing it. I will complain that nothing is really being done to stop/minimize it. Again, I hope to get that worked out.

Wow - I haven't checked in for a few days. Looks like we got hit hard. I too would be willing to take on a moderator role on one or more of the different subject areas to try to "share the load" of trying to keep the house clean. We don't want Al pulling all of his hair out - Peg might get mad!

I do have the number and of all things I think her name is B. I had planned on calling in the morning and I have posted a message with the web master for the lack of a better name. I just don't want to have them upset and just toss out this whole things because that would be the easiest for them and I was so informed. I had called a few weeks ago about some things and asked also about the constant porno on the member list. I called that my corner or clean up but I will do what ever is needed. I am home all day except to do Curves and grocery type stuff. I just remembered when Glut Pantry and Glut joined up recently the numbers changed. I am sure anyone can go to their sites and find a customer number. I just pulled up some information from my order that I got back but would rather not post it publically.

I didn't realize I wasn't signed in. I was on auto sign in before this mess happened and now I am going to be sure I log off. Now I am paranoid.

I am ok. I stopped by the hospital and my anxiety if overworking. I have taken some medication. I have a friend who works in ER. Nice thing about a little town.

Al,
Thanks for taking time to answer my questions. I'll go ahead and send a PM to the admin. It seems as if there is nothing that can be done until the Admin is involved. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the situation is resolved tomorrow AM.
TEC

Lexi,
Welcome home! Thanks for trying to help clear up my confusion.

Is there anyway I can send one PM to about 10 people. I was just going to put in everyones users name but didn't know if it worked like e-mail. I have some interesting information that I may want to share after my next talk with Glutino but think it needs to be handled privately and not involve our guests. They are to call me back with further info in a few hours.
