well, if you can't ask semi-anonymously on a message board where can you ask? Laughing

My symptoms have gradually gotten worse since having my daughter 5 years ago (I developed Hashimotos too during preg but wasn't diagnosed until 6 months post partum). But one silver lining was that the chronic stomach pain because of trapped wind that had become steadily worse, and awful constipation disappeared. I assumed that everything had sort of ...um... stretched (for want of a better word). I'd also had symphisis pubic dysfunction during pregnancy that meant all my ligament stretching went crazy and my hips and pubic bones seperated - agony! Anyway, flip side was that I developed a bit of a flatulence problem instead. I decided this was better than the pain, so I wasn't too upset. However, over recent months... goodness no idea how to put this delicately... passing wind actually burns sometimes. As though its really acidic. And its really foul smelling (sorry!!!! Embarassed) Has anyone else experienced this, or have any ideas why that has happened? I know the smell is characteristic but what about the burning?

[I feel really embarrassed asking this, isn't that silly?]

I have been dxed ceiac for three months and on this forum ever since. Toliet talk doesn't come up in my opinion as often as it should. I believe this not because I enoy talking about BM, but because it is so related to CD. Prediagnosed I had episodes of the big D which left burning, but not too frequently. I can't remember flatulance causing this, but it doesn't surprize me that it could. One thing for me was frequent smelly gas and BMs that have disapeared on the celiac diet for the most part. It is strange because I had this gas BM smelly issue as long as I can remember. Now it is gone. Floating stools light brown or grey in color with oil residue is a sign of cd(not all docs know or agree with this). My doc said large floating stools is just trapped air in the stool and doesn't mean anything on its own(without the oil residue). It has to do with undigested gluten which is fatty foul smelling and often leaves an oil resiudue in the toliet. In high school I was embarrassed to use a friends bathroom for Bm due to smell, but now that I'm gf I don't even need a fan. I'm sure if I ate spicy foods this might change Smile . I don't know if this answered your question, but I felt a need to put it out there. Plus it was an oppurtunity to have people listen to me talk about my BMs Embarassed . I also had a few bouts of stomach pains that lasted 3 days to a week at a time. I Went to ER the first time they found nothing, but two years later in a routine Dr. visit for diabetes I gave doc all the information I could think of on how I was feeling and he tested me for cd-Bingo.

Are you sure all of the hidden gluten is out of your diet? How about medications, cosmetics, shampoo, lotion etc?

Have you tried taking activated charcoal? It comes in tablets at the health food store, and they can really help with the "thunder from down under" as we call it at our house...

The foul smell is classic, just imagine if you left food out in the hot sun for hours and let it spoil. When you aren't digesting food because of the damage to your intestines you are fermenting and spoiling it in your gut, hence the awful odor. I met a woman years ago at a Celiac convention who's husband had added on a seperate bathroom just for her (pre-diagnosis). I can't recall burning just because of passing wind, but I can get burning passing wind if I have been glutened and am having one of those camp out on the john kind of days. Confused

I agree with Jim we shouldn't be afraid to talk about the more unpleasant issues, they are a really huge part of what we have all gone through.

Another issue I don't think I've run across in the short time I've been around this forum is halucinations. Before I was diagnosed I used to feel like there were things crawling on me and sometimes I would "see" out of the corner of my eye things (spiders and bugs) on my arms, of course none of the imaginary spiders were there but it used to freak me out. When I am really stressed and get glutened that comes back.

Hi there!!! I just wanted to tell you I probably wont be much help right now because I am suffering greatly and VERY ill. I just had a baby 2 years ago and got so sick after. I too have been DX with Hashimotos disease. I am now pregnant again and pretty scared because I am super ill again and it is horrible. My mom has celiac disease so it is possible I do too. I am hoping that is what it is because I can handle the gluten free i just cant handle being so ill and not knowing what it is. Sorry I wasnt much help but I just wanted to tell you I too am hashi after pregnancy and trying to still figure my health out with not much help from my docs. If you ever want to talk I am around. Take Care!
