Any idea if they have any GF food? Their web sites aren't helping.

Everything I have ever heard about Applebees is that they are VERY celiac unfriendly. Unwilling to say if anything is GF or alter their offerings in any way. I won't even try to eat there. Don't know about Ruby Tuesday, though.

We ate at Applebee's the other night, (only thing besides McD's open where we were) they are not CD friendly. OK let me say that I did not get sick had a cheesburger and the potatoes, but it states on their menu in big bold letters that they are not responsible for the reaction of people who eat there with food allergies (Not exact words but you get the picture.)

Ruby Tuesday's stated to me when I contacted them that because they use so many vendors they can't tell you anything about the GF status of their foods. Someone wrote in awhile back that worked for them and said even their steak is injected with a solution that has gluten in it. He wasn't sure about there burgers. I can tell you for a fact that there ribs are bad, didn't used to be years ago but the last time I had them I got REALLY sick.

Sorry Crying or Very sad

Nuts. My husband and I both really like to eat at both of those places. The only thing I could think of that was safe is a salad, but I don't like the idea of only eating salads every time we go out. Thanks for the info you two, I appreciate it! Smile

I don't know about the salad bar at your Ruby's but the one here I won't eat at. When they changed to the new mega salad bar thing, they crammed stuff so close togther that every time you went there the stuff was all mixed up. Plus people just grab whatever utensil they can find and use it wherever they want to. GRRR....

Kathie, that sounds disgusting! The Ruby Tuesdays here tends to keep things pretty clean. Every time we go there's always somebody cleaning and/or restocking things.

What about Famous Dave's? I miss good BBQ.

Don't know about Famous Dave's none around here, I would suggest you call or e-mail them. We do have Sonny's BBQ around here and I eat there, I can give you their list if there are any around you.

I'm curious about what you friend ate aklap, because they just emailed me back and said they couldn't give me any nutrition info at this time. They're working on creating a nutrition database which should be completed later this year.

Interesting...maybe it's a local thing. I know the city they were in has an active CD support group. The manager had a list of foods. I'm sorry that's about all I know.

Sounds kinda scary tho. Sad

Kathie,

There's a Sonny's BBQ not too far from where I live and I'd love to know what yours has that is safe. I called them probably a year and a half ago and they said they had no clue at the time, but hopefully stuff has changed. At any rate, I'd be really appreciative if you could tell me what yours has GF so I can talk to the one near me.

Ostrich,

Just to reinforce what's been said, I'll have to agree that Applebee's is gluten-stupid/ignorant. There's another thread around here regarding stupid or otherwise funny things that we've heard from restaurants during our adventures and I've posted my story there. Very Happy No amount of money in the world would convince me to give it a try EVER again. Nonetheless, I always prefer to take the lesson learned with humor. I think the thread is called "Your Waiter Said What?!" with some variation of that punctuation.

Here is the list from Sonny's I have not called them to update lately, but have been meaning to do so, when we travel I have found that some restaurants are now putting the garlic/butter spread on the outside of their baked potatoes, ours doesn't and I'm not sure if it is gluten free or not. I never eat the Mild BBQ sauce in the container on the table, you can ask for the to go packets and then don't have to worry about how they clean the bottles, (they put all the caps into a bucket together to clean them and then pull them out and put them back on top of whatever bottle they grab)
I usually eat the turkey, baked potato with butter and the cole slaw. The only other problem I have and its only happened at our local store, is when its really slow they have in the past sliced the meat and heated it up on the grill before sending it out. (It is very obvious if they do it because the meat will come out greasy and smoked meat shouldn't be like that) This is the same grill they cook the bread on. I always tell them not to do it, I'd rather have the meat cold, but they are supposed to keep it in the smoker or whatever and it is not a company procedure. We eat at Sonny's when we travel to KY 3-4 times a year because I consistently am able to do so without getting sick, of course we eat at the same 2-3 restaurants each time. Hope this helps.

They have a website and that is how I contacted them, not at the store level.

We are in the process of gathering nutritional information on our menu items. Right now, here’s what I have on gluten:

The following meats do not contain gluten:

Hamburger
BBQ Chicken
Sliced Beef
Sliced Pork
Traditional “dry” ribs (not sauced)
Turkey Breast

The only sauce we serve that is gluten free is our mild sauce. All the rest of our sauces contain gluten. That is why you should not eat any of our sauced ribs, pulled pork or baby back ribs. They all contain either our Sweet sauce or our Smokin’ sauce.

Of course, any breaded item i.e. onion rings, corn nuggets, catfish, etc. would contain gluten. There is the distinct possibility that the French fries may be deep fried in the same oil that is used to deep fry the breaded items, so I would not recommend that you eat any French fries, as they could have gluten on them.

The following salad dressings are gluten free:
Bleu cheese
Creamy Italian
French
No-Fat Honey Mustard
Ranch
Thousand Island

All the rest of our salad dressings, contain gluten. Our bar-b-q beans contain gluten. I do not have any info on gluten in our soups, so at this time, I would recommend that you not eat any of our soups. I am trying to get gluten info on them right now.

Our Cole slaw dressing is gluten free.

Please understand that there is always the possibility of some of our meats that are sauced (which would contain gluten) could come into contact with meats that are not sauced – in a busy kitchen, this is a possibility. It would be impossible for us to guarantee that this would never happen. The information I have provided you is based on the nutritional information that I have received from our suppliers and vendors and to the best of my knowledge is correct. I hope this helps you.

I would normally not give it a second thought, but those two restaurants (Applebee's and Ruby Tuesday's) are ususally where my family goes out to eat. Either that or some Italian place. Sad
