Hi there,
Unfortunately, their website has nothing regarding nutritional info so I'm guessing they aren't addressing any allergies concerns.
Does anyone know if anything is safe to eat there. Our office goes there a lot for celebrations and I feel like I need to sit out.
Thanks!! |

Here is what I found in regard to Chevy's (I LOVE GOOGLE!):
http://www.kintera.org/site/pp.asp?c=ewK0LjP7E&b=34768
Keep in mind, this is from '04, so I'm not sure how up-to-date this info is...
Chevy's
Chevy's restaurants offer Mexican food with a festive family atmosphere. The following statements and reported GF menu items were received on 11/15/04 by email. The menu items, however were based on information Chevy's last revised in 11/03.
"Because our menu items and methods of preparation may vary from state to state, we cannot guarantee this information, however we are fairly confident that this information is accurate. Always alert your server and the restaurant manager of your allergy/intolerance."
Several of our grilled items are marinated in a sauce (Agua Negra) that contains soy sauce as an ingredient, so technically these items are not gluten-free. This will explain why many of the grilled meats are not gluten-free. When in doubt, ask your server or the manager if the item is marinated in Agua Negra. You may request that corn tortillas not be put into the fryer as this may cause cross-contamination from the flour products that are fried in the same oil. Any items that are fried or cooked on the grill are subject to potential cross-contamination from flour tortillas, etc."

Spicy Wings/Ranch Dressing
Guacamole
Salsa
Chips –but possible cross-contamination issue with the oil.
Nachos Grande – if red sauce is left off. Possible cross-contamination of oil that the chips are cooked in.

I saw the info from Celiacnet and printed it out and took it to Chevys. When I asked the server if the chips were fried in oil with anything else, she said she'd get the manager. The manager came out and, with a not very helpful attitude, but acting more like I was a nuisance, just said, "Everything here has wheat in it. You'll have to get a salad." Just like that. When I showed him the list from Celiacnet, he shook his head saying no everything has wheat in it. "Don't you want a salad?" Like all they have to do to appease us is give us a salad.
So I left (because I am tired of salads - I don't want any more salads!).
Btw, this was the Chevy's at Folsom and 3rd Street in San Francisco. They clearly have no interest in serving our community, so don't waste your time there. |
