Last night my DD and I went to a support group meeting that I didnt' have to plan. LOL

It was so nice to meet some new people and see a couple of familiar faces again. We were there for a little over 2 hours. I didn't want to leave.

We had foods that we could snack on.........without fear of reactions.

I took doughnuts, my DD took coconut macaroons (white and chocolate).

We were tired from cooking all day..........but it was good to be in a room of people and feel 'normal' for a little while.

The group decided to try meeting again.

We found out that a local restuarant has a chef that was trained for the Celiac association, he has his own place here. We are going to see if we might be able to go eat there and have him give a talk to us.

Wow, 2 1/2 yrs ago, I thought that my DD was alone in the world with this..........then I found out that I feel better and my husband feels better on the diet...so it was us 3 against the world. LOL....... While I don't wish this on anyone else, it is so good to have you folks here and then to be able to sit down and talk in person with some others that understand.

Okay, enough rambling. Just thought I would share the uplifting night that we had.

You're right -- it really is nice to have this place and others like us to help us alongthe way.

Glad you have a support group meeting, too. I've tried to start one at my local health food store, but the manager isn't too great at getting his 'stuff' together for much of anything. I think his store is going to fail soon. It's been open almost a year, but this past week he's jacked up a lot of prices about 15-20%. That's a big jump overnight. Also, inventory is sporadic at best. When you see something you like, you tend to want to buy it all because it may be months before he gets it again. So, I don't think he's in any rush to give us a space and time a couple of times a month to meet -- he seems to drag his feet. (And his dad had CD, so you'd think he'd be more understanding!)

Yeah, I just saw in the local paper that there are celiac support group meetings in Ridgewood at the Red Cross building...

May try to hit one of them sometime soon...

It's cool, too, because it's just a town over and the Red Cross building is right next to Whole Foods! Wink

There is a Charlotte (NC) Celiac Support Group meeting on Saturday, May 13th, at CMC. The best part is . . .

Peter Green will be our guest speaker!!! His topic will be the same as his new book, and he will also be bringing copies of it to sell to us for a reduced price (didn't say what that would be). I anticipate it will be well worth the trip if you live remotely near. I am driving back early (and alone) from a graduation in Knoxville TN for it, myself.

If you plan to come and want the exact time and/or directions, feel free to PM me! I'll even give you the pass code to get free parking! Be there or be square!!! Wink

You'll have to post and let us know how it turns out... I'm 1/2 way through his book now - it's a very easy read with a lot of great info... Wish I was closer, I'd go for sure!
