|
|
can anyone tell me if these symtoms could be celiac:
for several years i suffered with sore muscles, and painful throbbing legs at night, then two years ago quite sudenly my feet started hurting.
the soles of the feet were very painful to stand on, and no doctor could understand the description i gave of how they felt: they felt like i had no fat padding left, and i was standing on bone. they only hurt when i stood on them. there was never any swelling.
i am wondering if this could be a celiac, because after doctors found nothing except for neuropathy in my feet, i went to a nutritionist, who detoxed me and put me on a whole foods diet eliminating all grains, and i started to feel better.
i would like to know if anyone with celiac has had any of these symtoms? |

Hi TK,
Welcome to the board!!
Sore muscles, joint pain (you didn't mention that), peripheral neuropathy can be signs of CD.
Peripheral Neuropathy usually presents with burning, tingling, shooting pains. Also you have have really weird sensations (aka parasthesia). Sensations like - crawling bugs, running water can be part of that.
As for the fat padding - yup - that's what it feels like. It feels like you are walking on sharp rocks or glass. No - it's not very fun. I have PN and have experienced all of those things.
Do your feet turn red too?
Did they do a host of tests to find the cause of your PN? In 70%+ of cases, they find no cause. I had hoped that going GF would help the PN, I don't think it has. I notice more changes when I went dairy reduced and watched my sugar intake.
Have you been tested for CD? Did anyone do a Vit B12 check on you? Low B12 levels can also present with symptoms like yours. Please, try to get tested before you either start a GF diet or start taking B12.
Our Thread on CD Related Symptoms - Lists many symptoms associated with CD.

Good luck in your Knowledge Quest!!
Edit: I saw in a prev. post of yours they dx'ed you with Small Fiber PN. It's very possible it maybe cause by gluten or malabsorption issues. I would definitely would look further into CD. _________________ Al

thank yo for your reply,
when the pain started in my feet and woudn't go away, I went to the celveland clinic, they ran all sorts of nerve conduction tests,Mris, and a host of bllod tests, the Neoropathy showed up, but there was no cause!!
so they gave me zoloft and that was it.
I have had a host of other problems ie, herpes whcih ihave outbreaks alsmost weekly, fibromyalgia like symptoms for the last 6 years. head aches which lasted for 6 motnhs, constipation bloating lasted for a year after i got painful feet, tiredness (waliking up stairs or just bending down to pick sometihing up is exhausting) and was at it's worst when i first got the foot pain.
patches of my skin become sensitive at times, and hurt to touch it, ususally around my thighs.
one more symptom which really scared me and only happened twice, was that i woke up with such a sorenes in my whole body like i had really been poisoned, i could not touch my body and could neot get out of bed for two days.
i went to a doctor here in the Bahamas, and had him run the initial blood tests for me, if they show up whith something i will go to the U.S for an endoscopy.
my feet don't turn red, or get swollen, but they hurt to stand on them, and if i have had to use them alot they really burn and ache all night long. massage makes them worse.

Tkstar, you have described what I have been having for years. No one understands what I am talking about. At times, it gets where I can not even hold on to the steering wheel because my hands hurt like my feet. Now I am having that same feeling of bone and no padding on my rear.
It really stinks!! I don't know if it is CD related, but I do know that it keeps me up a lot at night.
If you get any answers, please post the results here. _________________

Hey...I had the exact same problem. I had forgotten about that...probably as it has not been a problem as of late.
About 2 years ago, I was very concerned about this because I had a driving trip to Colorado. I was afraid I would not be able to sit for long periods of time.
Some where along the way...this has gone away. _________________ Al
