Unique GF dining in San Diego?

Will be visiting San Diego next month for a family wedding and would like any suggestions on good gluten-free-friendly restaurants (my husband owes me an anniversary dinner). I figure in a city that size they would have something that catered to the GF population. My brother-in-law is no help and I'm not finding much online. Please, no chain restaurant suggestions... we like locally owned, unique, local color/local culture kind of places. My husband and I are also pretty into the whole "granola" experience (we're also vegan), so anything along those lines would fit the bill nicely.

Thanks, Al... you're quick! This wedding will be my first major "outing" on a GF diet, which is a bit depressing as I had been somewhat involved in the loop re: planning the reception... Now going GF will probably mean I don't get to eat anything! Debated about taking a pass on the romantic dinner, but I had to do so in February when it was actually our anniversary b/c I was terribly ill from the CFS. We've been planning the San Diego "rain date" for months and I'm not about to give it up so that I can stay in our hotel room and eat rice cakes, so I guess we'll try and do the best we can... Although being new to all this, trying to think about navigating through a restaurant meal so early in the game is a bit daunting. I'm still trying to figure out what I can salvage out of my pantry!!! At least my husband is going to go along and do the GF diet with me for moral support!

Do you know who is catering the dinner? I would try to find out and call the caterer and ask about getting a GF dinner for yourself. Many times they are quite accomodating. I had to do this for my brother's wedding in March. I found out the name of the person to talk to (many times you wind up takling to a chef) from my brother and I called them directly. I wanted to handle this personally. It confusing enough, without having a 3rd party involved.

Something are just naturally GF. Take...crab legs...lobster. They are usually steamed/boiled in their own shells. Many times they don't come in any sauces.
