Can anyone give me a ballpark as to how long it takes to get the results of an endoscopy??
Is it one of those tests where they give you the results before you leave? Or one that you have to wait (seemingly) weeks before you have any idea what the findings were??
Thanks!! |

Ok, so it's not one of those immediate things.
But, since we already have the blood tests indicating the gluten intolerance, once the endoscopy is DONE, then we can go GF with our daughter, without worrying about skewing additional tests, right???? |

Double check with the Doctor before you leave but generally yes after the endoscopy you could go gluten free. It does take a week or so to get the results of the biopsies, some things they can see just with the scope but not damaged villi. Hope all goes well for her tomorrow. _________________ CD by Biopsy 3/25/88 |

My GI guy pretty much knew during my endo that I had celiac disease.....
Here's the wording on the report of the procedure...dated 2/9/06
"As I entered the duodenal bulb, there was mild patchy hyperemia, but as I went into the second portion of the duodenum and proximal third of the duodenum, the folds were somewhat blunted. There was what appeared to be obvious scalloping present that would be consistent with celiac disease. I saw no ulcerations or other lesions. Photographs were taken. Biopsy forecps were passed, and a total of 8 biopsies were taken of the mucosa to assess the underlying mucosa.......tol well", blah, blah, blah.
His comments: Pam's small intestine does have what appears to be classic scalloping, but I do need to wait for histopathology. I anticipate when biopsies are received we well review a gluten free diet with her.
The date on the pathology report as being 'reported' is 2/10/06, and it states:
Diagnosis: severe villous atrophy with crypt elongation and moderately active duodenitis; consistant with celiac disease
The report wasn't sent to my GIs' office till the 13th, and that's when they called me, but I knew the moment my labs were elevated (2/8/06) that I had CD.
I would like to think that you'd know something before one week is up.
My prayers are with you..... _________________ Pam
