I've never been diagnosed with a dairy intolerance, but seem to be having some problems. Is this common with CD? _________________ Never let your fears become the bounderies of your dreams! |

Many people have an issue with Dairy as well as the CD. So far, we seem to be okay with Dairy.
It could also be that if you are just now starting the diet, that your insides need to heal longer before you can try Dairy products. Something about the protein being very similar to gluten.
There are many rice milk, almond milk, soy and even powdered rice milk that you might be able to try. Some people can use goat milk where they can no longer use cow milk. _________________

| I didn't want to admit I needed to give up dairy but once I did I felt better, also less constipated. I'm hoping that once I am better I will be able to reintroduce it but since I am new to this and keep glutening myself accidentally I don't know how long that will be. Funny think is, I'm starting not to miss it and in fact to have a kind of don't want feeling anyways. |

Hi NW,
Lactose intolerance is very common with CD. Something like 50% are LI. The reason if very simple. The tips of the villi create an enzyme called Lactase. Lactase breaks down the sugar compenent in dairy (Lactose). Now...if the villi are damaged [or non-existant]..they don't produce lactase. If there's not lactase, there's no breakdown. If there's no breakdown, there's "consequences"
So...once the villi heal...they start producing lactase again. Many times celiacs will be able to tolerate some dairy after they've healed.
So, give it a try and see how it goes. _________________ Al

When I had the genetics test with Entero Labs, it registered a "casein" intolerance as well as the gluten. Casein is the milk protein rather than the milk sugar. That may be another issue for you. _________________ The Love we withhold is the pain that we carry.
