I bought a box of Holgrain Rice crackers with onion and garlic and later noticed on the box that they make whole wheat crackers as well. SO, I went on their website but found no whole wheat crackers listed under products or in their store. SO, I called them and yes they do make whole wheat crackers still. They're not listed because they are not real popular. They never make them on the same day as the rice crackers, nor even the same week, and they use all the wheat they have then heat the rollers to 799 degrees and rip off a section of the belts and discard it, then they take chlorox and something and thoroughly clean everything as "they understand how sick people can get from even the tiniest amount'. Of course I asked if they tested the end product for gluten and she "didn't know". Anyhow, that's probably a lot more effort than a lot of companies go to who put "gluten free" on their packages. I'll be glad when the gluten free labeling law passes and we'll know that anything labeled gluten free has actually been tested and passed. On this same vein, I went to buy Skinny Chips and there was a big ol' sticker on them saying "NOT guarenteed gluten free" that they were made in a facility and run on lines with wheat products. I will miss them..... _________________ gf since 3/27/04 |
