Has anyone thought about how to organize the recipes here? I know we discussed it briefly...but I think that's as far as it went [certainly in my head anyway ]. _________________ Al

For me, I like having seperate threads divided up like a cookbook.......
Breakfast
Breads
Pizza crusts (seems I have tons of those. LOL)
Veggie
Soup
ect. ect.....
to me it is easier to thumb through (scroll through) to find something that I am looking for.
Are we allowed to pin topics? and then just add a new post with in those categories to discuss the recipe to the understand of all? _________________

I like Mrs. P idea of breaking the recipes down into categories, but we have so few recipes posted on this site. I'm thinking broader catergories would work just as well...baked goods, side dishes, main dishes, desserts, etc. As we get more recipes perhaps we could expand the number of categories and move recipes about.
There was a more recent discussion on TNT recipes and I would find it, but I'm borrowing computer due to my shear stupidity and just have a few minutes....Gatorade and keyboards don't mix!

Tec, I think your idea is good if this section would never grow, but poor Al will eventually have to move all those posts. Better to set it up with room to grow from the get go.
I don't know if there could be sub-catagories set up under the Recipe section to call out:
Beverages
Appetizers
Soups
Sides
Sea Food
Poultry
Beef
Veggies
Breads
Dessert
(etc)
Then use the sticky posts for TNT recipes in each category.
That's my two cents...

Hi Jenn,
Moving the recipes isn't really a problem - it's easy to do.
I don't believe you can do sub-forums here That'd ideal
Each category would have to be a post with in the Recipes Forum.
I do like the Sticky TNT idea tho!! _________________ Al

Oh! I got it
Why not remove the current "recipe" category from FOODS AND COOKING. Then set up RECIPES on the same level as the FOODS AND COOKING level.
Then you could set up the below categories as separate folders under that and still use the sticky posts for the TNT recipes?
Beverages
Appetizers
Soups
Sides
Sea Food
Poultry
Beef
Veggies
Breads
Dessert
Then of couse you'd have to move all the current threads into each catagory - but that should be easy as you've said.
Sorry if I'm overly excited by this - I love to organize stuff. Yes, I'm an organization dork. _________________ Cheers!

okay, I know it is late and everything, but are you going to create a seperate forum with the recipes linked over to that site? _________________

No MrsP, I just did that so we could see how it was going to look. We'd ask Admin if he could create this for us. _________________ Al

I'm thinking it'd be a good idea to use the glutenfreezone as a test bed before we send it all off to admin. We can tweak it and get it the way we want so we don't have to make him change stuff after the fact. I'm sure we need to change things a bit as we go, but I think we can minimize the amount of times we have to bug him. _________________ Al

Al, I really like this format that I used over on my recipe board that I started.
(I haven't caught it up in a while.........I have another one that is private due to needing privacy on some )
http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=37610&subForumID=191857
I wasn't thinking that we needed all of these, but possibly penned threads with some or most of these headings.
What do the rest of you think about this idea? _________________

I was hoping TNT would have it's own folder and not just stickies at the top of the category folder. If I'm hungry and want something mostly foolproof, but I'm not sure what it would be nice to have the recipes all in the same folder. For some reason stickies really annoy me.
I think Mrs. P and I generally sort our recipes the same way. Here's how I keep my recipes housed in my gmail account. It seems to work well for me, but I have had to on occasion and a new folder. For a group setting it might be advantageous to add 'one pot meal' and 'pasta and sauce' categories under main. I place any carbohydrate heavy side dishes into the starch category--potato, pasta, squash, etc.
Appetizer
Main
Beef
Pork
Poultry
Seafood
Soups and Stews
Vegetarian Main
Baked Goods
Bread, Rolls, Etc.
Cakes & Frostings
Cookies, Bars & Candy
Other Desserts
Sides
Salads
Starches
Veggies
Drinks
Sauces, Condiments & Dressings

I shouldnt be doing this when I can't make one concise post..but I'm throwing caution to the wind
With seperate TNT folder youd have to duplicate the organizing structure all over, otherwise you wouldnt know to look for a TNT recipe. Just like Recipes forum is now. You'd need TNT - Beef, TNT - Pork, TNT - Kangaroo, etc...
If TNT were done as a sticky - we'd be using the existing structure. The Beef forum - would have a TNT sticky that is an index to the all the beef recipes. _________________ Al
