This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing it with us. I'll be seeking out an asian market tomorrow!

Hey guys.. I had to pop in here for this thread.. I LOVE THESE THINGS!!!! OMGosh!!!!! They are my new best friend!! LOL

One of my child care parents brought over a lunch for her son one week that had me asking about these. I told her about spring rolls, but that I've never seen or tried them, just heard about them.. she showed up the next day with a package of them. Ours are in a round plastic container. And were bought at Shnucks (sp?) Or also known as Logli's... mainstream grocery store, and are all rice. Anyway.. not knowing anything about these, I bugged Al and Lauren, and gave them a try. I can't even put into words how well these are working for us!!
Over the weekend, we had to travel up north (family member passed away) Eme wanted a sandwhich, but Matthew and I took turkey rolls.. and while she wore half of hers, we just moaned with each bite! LOL
Matthew seems to do fine with the salt, so now he doesn't have to have taco slop when it's taco night, I can use these and make him burritos (which we're having this week!) LOL He asks for them all the time,... wants breakfast burritos, sandwhich rolls, exc! He's hooked! (and so is mommy!)

In fact, one of my favorite foods is Crab Rangoon, just this morning, I was looking up recipes to see if I can adapt these rolls and deep fry them. I think I can, and am going to give it a try! I hope it works.. cause I've been craving crab rangoon for a long time now!

Here is the recipe.
It calls for wontons, but I don't see why the rice paper won't work.. just might have to use more than one.

Great to hear others happy about these... my hubby thinks I'm nuts! lol

Off to have lunch.. take a guess what I'm having? lol
Oh.. btw.. they're fragile when dry, but pretty sturdy when wetted.. Matthew wanted a hotdog and ketchup wrapped in one, I was worried it would bust, but it took his beating nicely!

Ok, so here's a question.

If you make them to take to work for dining at a later time, how do you keep them from just breaking to pieces??

I work two evenings a week, but usually bypass dinner till I get home around 8:30, because my bread falls apart and crumbles all over my desk.

So, how do I keep the same thing from happening to the rice paper?? Do you put a little bit of water in the container? But, then the whole food item would be soggy. How's that work???

Hey everybody - have to tell. I just located the BEST Asian market - in beautiful downtown Bradenton, Florida no less. A charming Korean gentleman, Mr. Yi, showed me around, and talked my ear off with yummy ideas. Since I wasn't going straight home, I didn't purchase anything that needed refrigeration, but did buy some sweet brown rice, rice papers (rice, salt, water) and nori.

Now, Lauren - where do I begin? Confused I have on hand leftover brown rice (although not the sticky kind) - was thinking about some stir-fried cabbage and Boar's Head turkey. Love the hot dog idea.

Put them in a bag or container without any extra water. Too much water makes them fall apart. If there's not enough it might get a little chewier, but not the end of the world.

Purrs, just put both sides under gentle running water, put what you want on them, and by then they should be soft enough to fold up like a burrito shell. It sticks together so it doesn't fall open once rolled up. You can really roll most anything inside them, and if it's reasonably dry it keeps fairly well for lunch the next day.

We had them for dinner last night wrapped around scrambled eggs with other things added in. Everyone loved them! We had bok choy on the side and the kids were making bok choy rolls too. There is something extra fun about eating with your hands at dinner. Razz

In an effort to avoid acting old, I have to agree with Amy that finger food is beat eaten as often as possible Smile. I also take kid's vitamins, under the premise that the chewables are absorbed better. Knowing that you'll be in your late 20s before you get your first "real" job really messes with your head (oh, the joys of grad school).

Hey, Lauren, my youngest is 34 and takes chewable vitamins. She started on those after recovering from gastric bypass surgery, but she's well healed now (and 130 pounds lighter - she is the poster child for that surgery if done well with the appropriate behavior changes), but she still takes kids' vitamins.

After you re-hydrate them and wrap them around your food... do you cook them?

Nope - you don't cook them after that. You just eat them cold. They are good!

oh lordy this is too funny! a couple days ago in the grocery store I happened upon this spring wrap stuff I thought wow this is something cool, I could probably make sandwhich rolls with it. so yesterday I told my daughter to try one see how they taste, she breacks off a piece and says I must have got a piece of the plastic, so she takes out another piece and says no its the wrap that taste like plastic, so I taste it and yep taste like plastic. today I read this post that you get them wet!!!!I am laughing my butt off. Why don't the chinese put instructions on there products for us simple minded americans???????? Have you guys also tried rice (taco) shells? they work great. but you can only get those at the health food stores. Thanks for letting me know how to use these stupid rolls. Carey

Laughing

That is funny...... I can just imagine you nibbling at the hard "plastic" pieces.

I never saw the rice tortillas though. I'll look for them. Are they hard or soft?

Mine came with instructions, but the instructions say to soak them for 2 to 3 minutes! By then they'd be so soft they'd fall apart, but wetting without soaking works for me.
