I went to Coastal Flats restaurant this weekend, it's owned by the same people that own Mikes American Grill and Sweetwater Tavern -

They totally have a gluten free menu, which I didn't know (they don't advertise it at all!) I asked my waitress to check if the salmon was prepared with any flour, and she came back and said that it wasnt but she had checked the gluten-free menu and it wasn't listed on there. But they had some AMAZING shrimp and grit cakes, and the flourless chocolate waffle was TO DIE FOR!! Definitely a great restaurant for celiacs!

i also must say that it was the best gluten free menu i've ever seen! they even had some selections that werent on the regular menu (ha! ha!) and they listed every ingredient in the entire entree, from sauces to sides. they also wrote in big red bold letters exactly how to order it to make sure you were safe. definite A+!

Thanks. I haven't seen or heard of them in my area, but I'll certainly be on the look out!

I had lunch there last week. The menu was fantastic. I also had the flourless chocolate waffle. It was the best dessert that I've had in ages. I am planning on going back asap. Exclamation

Hi guys!
I had to sign a form at work that if I went into chat rooms I could be fired, so that's why you never hear from me anymore. Evil or Very Mad At least it came now after a couple years gf. I could have never made it without the forums! Anyhow, I will pop in at night on those rare occasions that I'm still awake. Laughing Now, about Coastal Flats. I did go to the one in Tysons Corner and ordered the mussels off their gf menu. It came with 4 huge breads sticking up. Of course I sent it back and the chef said well, why did she order it? I put flour in the sauce as well. They told him it was on the gf menu and he said it shouldn't be. I ended up with a plain piece of chicken with cheese. I asked for lettuce tomato and onions and only got some cold roasted peppers from a jar. I haven't been back. They were very nice tho and didn't charge me for my meal. I may try again some day...... but if the mussels had come without the bread I would have eaten them and become very ill...

Wow, stories like that are what make me utterly paranoid about eating out. It seems all too common that this type of thing happens, and most people just don't get what level of damage a little bit of flour in something can do to the allergic person.

As a side benefit, I have saved a ton on dining out.
