I like to have nutrition/energy bars around for quick snaks. A lot of these are a no no, mostly because of the oats. Is it okay to try oats and see if they make me feel sick, or should I give that up altogether. Seems like that is still a debate.
Does anyone have a bar that they eat safely and tastes good? |

There are some oats out there that are supposed to be safe. I can't remember the name of the new company that assures that there is no cross contamination. (I am sure that someone will come along with a name or link to this product.)
Later on when I have some time, I will try to type you out a recipe that was in the Last issue of Living Without magazine. It was for an energy bar. _________________

Our personal favorite is ANDI Bars and Bumble Bars (chocolate being our favorite flavor in both).

what about luna bars...they are made with all organic products, organic oats being one of them...but, the package says "we source ingredients which do not contain wheat, dairy, and are not genetically engineered"
I love these bars, but not sure about the oat thing |

For all intents and purposes, commercially available oats are off limits to celiacs. They can be cross-contaminated with wheat in the growing/storing/processing. If you choose to eat oats, you should get them from a company that promises gluten-free oats.
PS - many doctors (mine included) reccommend that newly diagnosed celiacs wait a year before trying oats, and only do so if their antibody levels are good. _________________ -Colleen

The best food bars WF/GF are the organic food bars - i personally like the active greens flavor b/c it is the healthiest. But they make them in flax, orginal, blueberry, rasberry, choc.chip, etc. You can get them in any health food store, from tons of websites, and the vitamin shoppe that I know of. They run about $2.99/bar or cheaper if you buy box of 12. My friends who don't have celiac love them too!!! I listed the ingredients below and the nutrition label (as is appears on the active greens flavor). Everyone try and Enjoy!!!
Ingredients
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Almond butter*, date paste*, agave nectar*, brown rice protein*, raisins*, flax sprouts*, quinoa sprouts*, wheat grass juice powder*, barley grass juice powder*, sesame seeds*, spirulina*, blueberries powder*, raspberries powder*, broccoli sprouts*, beet juice powder*.

One word - Costco !
They now carry a box of "granola" bars called Bora Bora. They remind me of those sesame snaps (which I'm not too fond of) but they are very good ! No real granola (ie. no oats) but nice almond chunks, etc.
**Edited to add that the box says "gluten free" right on it ! |
