On Oprah recently, Dr. Mehmet Oz was on to promote his new book "You on a Diet"

http://www.realage.com/doctorCenter/YouOnADiet/entry1a.aspx?cbr=YDGGLE12

One of the things he mentioned totally avoiding was high fructose corn syrup, which seems to be in just about everything, and it's evil!

In order to avoid IBS attacks, I eat gluten free (and now I'm grain free, sigh), avoid fried foods, dairy, soy, eggs, eating a bunch of nuts, caffeine... Knock on wood I haven't had an IBS attack for several years. I still have problems with constipation (which used to alternate with attacks), but I can live life with that!

Hi Red,

Welcome to the board!!

Glad to hear you haven't had any attacks! Keep up the good work. Are you getting enough fiber in your diet? That should help with the constipation. Sadly, I don't not know if fiber causes IBS flares. Oh - make sure you are drinking enough water too.

Have you been diagnosed with solely IBS or do you have gluten intol. issues as well?

Corn syrup is the devil!

Hi, redsd. I'm grain-free now, too (not IBS but IBD - Colitis Sad ) . Are you following the SCD? I update http://nuttymeatfruit.blogspot.com almost daily - check it out if you get a chance! Wink

They (Dr Oz) also does the You on a Diet show on either HGTV or TLC -- I can't remember which. I'm definitely buying the book as it talks about the first five ingredients on labels and which ones to avoid. I've only seen the show once, but it was full of information!

I used to have IBS. I too am on a gluten-free and grain-free diet. I also am dairy-free. No soy either and no caffeine.

I still have tons of fun with food. Love to cook and eat. Life is rich and full. Here is a link to a good recipe for cookies:

I also might recommend a visit to this site:

Going on Elaine Gottschall's diet (see link above) saved me from IBS!

Hope this helps!
