I am now down to 123 pounds and about 5'8. I still keep losing weight, the dr wants me to eat lots of brown rice and drink lots of coconut milk and a box of rice milk a day.she says I need to have alot more calories. But anything with starch makes me sick. I have allergies to milk, egg, corn?, sugar?, alfalfa, coffe, yeast of all kinds,onions, pepper, goat milk,- don't really want to gain it back, but I need some ideas on getting more calories without these gluton, sugars or starches. right now I eat cream of rice for breakfast lunch I have salad or brocolli and cauliflower-sometimes I go get a hamburger or chicken breast once in awhile from the hamburger stops. dinner we usually have a piece of meat (usually chicken)and a vegy. I usually make potatos for the rest of the family, so they get full. at night I will make a shake with bananas and rice milk. they want me to eat nuts, I try but they bother me too. I am waiting for a candida test now. but if anyone has any ideas please let me know- and soy milk bothers me but I use it if its an ingredient in something. thanks for your help. Sorry in advance to people trying to lose weight. hey were all in the same boat, were just not all going in the same direction. Have you tried working out? Not only will it pack on more muscle (which will make you weigh more), it'll also increase your appetite. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

Hey alone,
sorry to hear your having weight gaining issues.. I have been struggling with it since being Diag. Feb 05 Prior to my Diagnosis I weighed 125 and am almost 5'6" I lost 26 pds when I was my sickest and now I weigh 113. Working out (I teach taekwondo) has helped greatly in gaining muscle weight back. Plus I still have to drink Ensures to add more calories I drink 3 a day everyday. Plus meals, I pretty much cut out most of my goodies as it didn't help with putting any weight on.
I dont have all the allergies you have and so sorry to hear that you do.
What about rice pasta? I know that when I was at my lowest weight, I ate alot of pasta, and working out really helps.
Can your Dr. help you find a protein powder that you can add to your banana shakes...?
Also, have you gone to the GlutenFreePantry.com to check out what they offer.. they are really good about listing other food allergies as well.
Good luck with your weight gain, I know its frustrating... I hate the scale and I hate the lectures from my Dr. even more. sometimes it brings me to tears, and friends and family dont help! telling me they are going to force feed me
So Alone---you are not alone we're here for ya
let us know how your doing----good luck
take care---ann _________________ Today not possible, tomorrow possible |

| It seems to me the easiest way to gain weight would be to eat more frequently during the day. Instead of 3 meals try 6. |

My Mom's sister has had surgery on her esophagus to remove a spot that might have been precancerous. This was a couple years ago and she has had extreme troubles eating ever since. They say she is not Celiac, I really don't know. So many things sound like us.
Recently they gave her the medicine Reglan which is an antinausea medication in the hospital. It helped her and she asked if she could continue it at home. She was given a prescription and she is eating better and keeping her food down. We feared if she kept losing weight she could be in serious trouble.
She is 5'8 and was down to just over 100 lbs --- way too skinny. Now Mom says she is 120 lbs. A good weight for her is maybe 135 - 140. I don't know if this would help you and there are side effects to the drug. You could discuss it with your doctor though. I have seen it mentioned on Celiac searches before and it appears on a gluten free drug list, but please double check if you do ask the doctor about this medicine. _________________ Dairy free 7-2004

I took anti-nuasea meds for years and now I have a problem between my stomach and throat and I can't throw up to save my life. so that med is totally out. And I walk on my treadmill atleast 1/2- 3/4 mile a day. I need to build that up I know. I do when its cold like this just to get warmed up. And I do crunches and weights for my shoulders. But I am very limited because of back and shoulder problems. And before I found out about my milk problem I used to drink ensure. I did find some protein drink to put in my banana shake-what else RICE. If I suddenly become allergic to rice I will have to stop eating.LOL. They told me to eat nuts, so I am trying to eat them and say yuk I mean yum.I did not know nuts had so many calories? Thanks for your ideas ,carey _________________ Dear Lord, Please help me help my stupid self. |

Have you tried Almond flour? You can buy it or grind your own and use it to cook. Add it to your rice flour mixture for a little fat and protein and it tastes really good. I use it for muffins, about 1/4 of the flour mix. I don't know how to cook them with no eggs. Do you have a good egg replacement?
You could use it to thicken soups or make sauces too. They sell nut butters if you can find them at a place like whole foods. You could put that on an apple maybe?
I am sorry that Reglan won't help you. I felt it was worth a mention since it worked for my Aunt. _________________ Dairy free 7-2004

I'm in the same boat as your are so dont' feel alone. I have an aversion to dairyand soy as well, and I've lost a lot of weight along with my hair. I have a hard time finding calories that are not from dairy, soy, or whey all of which don't like me right now. I drink a fairly ok tasting shake made from only vegtables. It's about 125 calories and 22 gms of protein. It's called Naturade Soy Free Veg protein. I mix about one and a half scoop, a banana, and a ton of peanut butter into it and chug it down. I've been doing this for about 3 months and I have not noticed much weight gain, but I'm not losing it anymore though. I'm 5'11" and I weight about 135-140. My lowest when I was the worst was about 120 and that was about 2 years ago. I also eat a lot of egg whites, but it is hard to eat enough on your own with whole food. Good luck
Anyone else experiencing hair loss due to this. My head is really splotchy but it seems to be growing back slowly. Any info helps. |

I don't know if its the PC thing to do anymore but when I was diagnosed and continued to loose weight the Doctor put me on a two week course of Prednisone, he said to jump start my system. It worked for me and I haven't had any trouble since then with gaining weight, just the opposite actually. _________________ CD by Biopsy 3/25/88 |
