I can't find any ingredients on the sides of flavored liquor bottles. This is especially disturbing when there is obviously at least two things in there besides some kind of alcohol. Kahlua, schnapps, Grand Marnier and the rest all have at least some sweetener and the flavor along with the alcohol. I've written to Dekuyper and they never wrote back. I'm especially concerned about that weird ingredient that is everywhere, "Natural Flavoring", or more obviously, flavor enhancers like MSG or one of its cousins.
Does anyone have any clue what goes in this kind of liquor? |

I am not sure about what flavorings are used exactly, since it seems each of those brands has their "trade secrets" to protect their forumlations. I remember seeing a GF liquors list on this board in the past (unless my memory is corrupted). Best bet is getting a manufacturer to just certify whether the final forumlation is GF or not, which I am sure can be difficult or slow to obtain. Many of those "natural flavors" could easily be harmless, like fruit extracts or such, but could equally be problematic if they turned out to be malt extract or wheat-based flavors, etc. I hope you get the info you need from the makers or find it alread on here somewhere. _________________ Mike

| Well, I'm not holding my breath. It's not the end of the world if I can't drink Kahlua. When it comes to this kind of stuff; When in doubt, do without. |

Now, Kahlua in particular I have repeatedly seen info stating it is GF. Sure hope so, I use it on occasion in mocha and coffee-flavored desserts in particular (a favorite being Cappuccino Cheesecake. mmm). Everything I could find at the time of creating such recipes said Kahlua was GF, so unless I hear definitive proof to the contrary, I'm sticking with that one. One thing that is always of concern of course is formulation-changes... those tend to occur without notice. Here's hoping there are none of those lurking out there for the things I use. _________________ Mike

I'm not so much concerned about what isn't in these drinks, but what is in them. |
