|
|
All my life, I've been rail-thin. Looked undernourished and very probably was. In July 2006, I finally was diagnosed with celiac disease and went on a gluten-free diet.
All of a sudden (well, five months later!), my 32-inch waist size feels a bit tight.
In discussing this issue with my doctor, I told him I eat rice and potatoes, and he advised me to throttle back on them somewhat. I've been aware that sugar and fat are the celiac's biggest enemies because it's an easy trap to fall into.
I make sure to fit in the five or more fruits and vegetables per day, including bananas at breakfast. My doctor actually told me I should consider avoiding bananas, but that's not gonna happen.
My doc also told me that I'm probably absorbing much more from food these days, but that I'm also probably making some fat all on my own as well.
Exercise should take care of the excess. But the GF diet is outstanding for me. I never was much of a fast-food eater because I always considered it as high-calorie, low-performance filler.
I think I have gained 15 pounds in the past five months. At Christmas, my sister-in-law, whom I had not seen since summer vacation, told me that I looked good. She said I had better color and just looked healthier.
Needless to say, I am very pleased. Ironic, isn't it? The celiac diagnosis actually paved the way toward a healthier life.
Now, if I only had a Whole Foods market in my town. Their gluten-free carrot cake... _________________ Freed from Gluten, July 2006 |

Well done Rags! Keep up the good work!
Yup - I've always said there are positives to this - we just need to look for them. Once we find them, we need to focus on them instead of the negatives.
Why did he say to give up the bananas? _________________ Al
