I used corn flour to fry fish, seasoned it with salt, peper, garlic powder and garlic salt, was very good.

In Indian cusine, we use garbanzo bean flour for batters, it's excellent too!

Garbanzo bean flour sounds good. Do you use it for fish? I know you said you do for other cooking. Luckily the Garbanzo bean flour is gluten free right? I have a friend from India who had a snack mix type of treat that had little fried pieces of chick pea flour and it was really tasty. Probaby the same thing, maybe you know what I am talking about. It is a mixture of rice puffs with chick pea flour fried pieces with spices.

Oh it's so wonderful (the flavour / taste everything) that you won't even feel like you are eating GF :-p

It's very cheap and you can find it very easily. . . well in Canada at least.
It is mostly labeled as "Besan".

I think what you had was Pakora (indian fritters basically).. . . or maybe poonthi, which is basically just fried spiced flour, you can make it with a variety of flours (mostly they make it with wheat though....BOOOO!).
