OK, so last Friday I got something in my salad at lunch and by dinner was feeling gassy/achy in my stomach. On Saturday I still felt it but it didn't get too bad. Then we went out to dinner with friends and I must have gotten a little bit more gluten then because by about 10pm I could feel a migraine coming on and my stomach was upset.
I woke on Sunday knowing that my stomach was going to hurt if I ate so I drank green tea and ate apple sauce most of the day, finally giving in to some plain chicken and an artichoke for dinner (yes, that hurt). I also had a migraine most of the day though it finally went away with Frova.
I was also feeling achy, in my ribs, neck, shoulders and spine most of the day and it got worse as the day went on. By the time I was in bed I was having a lot of discomfort. It wasn't quite in my joints but felt like it was in my ligaments/tendons rather than muscle or joints. Turning over in bed was not fun.
I woke today feeling better-ish, knew better than to eat all morning (though I caved at lunch and had rice mac and cheese and a chocolate protein drink - the chocolate set my stomach off again) and I have been having trouble thinking. I'm wondering if the aches and pains I had (not so much now) were related to being glutened or if they were something else? It was almost like how you feel when you get a really achy cold/virus.
Anyone have that? Frustrated right now... _________________ Stephanie |

Yes,Stephanie. I have had "the flu" almost every afternoon for about 5 years now. Some days are worse than others. Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. Hope you feel better soon. And I, well, I hope I get a definitive diagnosis soon.
Take care.

Yes, It is so frustrating not feeling well. What you described is how I've felt all my adult life, so you are not alone. I've had a lot of tendonitits, and many times it felt like the flu. I could hardly hobble to the bathroom in the morning.
The good news is that I'm feeling better going GF. It is hard not being able to eat out like I used to, but feeling better is worth it.
You should feel better soon, I'm sure.

Hi everyone! I'm sorry that this has been happening to you guys and some of you for so long! Wow! I've actually felt this way for the past 2 and a half weeks almost non-stop, that is flu-ey and with different joints taking turns really hurting. I think that it's weird since I haven't noticed it before really and I've been GF for about 6 weeks. Huh!?!

Wow - a lot of you identify with this, that's a bummer (for all of us...)
I was feeling better yesterday and then last night I decided to eat a real mean (dumb idea) and had some hamburger stroganoff and within 30 mins I was very cranky. But of course I didn't take that as a sign. Then I went to bed and woke in the middle of the night, achy and with a migraine, plus a lot of gas. I guess I wasn't ready for real food after my weekend gluten experience. I am sure I didn't give myself any more as I made my dinner from scratch. Took a pill for the migraine and finally got a little more sleep and am feeling better-ish again now but have a chiropractor appointment today and I'm already imagining how I'm going to try to describe how I've been feeling the last few days. I did notice when I woke this morning that my ribs still hurt (I have one spot that acts up) and my left wrist, another chronic spot. It makes me think of what my massage therapist told me once - that when you are sick or not feeling well the "negative energy" goes to your weakest parts which are those you have injured before.
Anyway, I'm sticking to yogurt, fruit, goat milk, rice and apple sauce today... _________________ Stephanie |

You know, I thought that once people with CD went GF, that we were supposed to feel just fine and healthy. What's the deal with the body aches? Do you think that there is something else wrong too?? My dr took a lot of blood last week to test for a bunch of things; I can't even remember what for. Sigh, I bet they show absolutley nothing (which I guess is good).

It definitely takes some time. 6 weeks may not have been long enough for you yet. I have been GF for 6 months and still have ups and downs - but mainly after I get an accidental ingestion like in this case. The funny thing is I was just bragging last week that in the past 6 months I have only had three migraines, one from gluten and two from shellfish (I have an allergy). Now I've had two migraines in three days (OK, probably the same migraine... that's how these things go) and from gluten.
From what I've read, the longer you go without gluten, the stronger the reaction when you slip up. I can say for a fact that that is the case with me.
It'll get better! _________________ Stephanie |

Hi all,
I can definitely relate to all of the above comments about body aches. Mine started when I got breast cancer 3 yrs. ago & was getting chemo. Everyone said that's why I ached so much, but it never went away. NOW I know why. I still ache even though I've been GF for a couple of weeks. I wonder...will it ever end?

Hi Ann,
I suspect it will - given time. You've only been GF 3 weeks - eveybody is different when it comes to seeing improvement. It may take 1-2-3-6 months. Actually - you may start to feel worse before you feel better! This is normal. Just make sure you're not getting any hidden gluten and keep plugging along. One day at a time.
If have heard many times of Fibromyalgia (which it kind of sounds like you might have) symptoms completely disappearing on a GF diet.
Keep at it! Keep up the good work!! Glad you're hanging out with us _________________ Al

Hi Al,
I was actually tested for Fibro. but the Dr. said no. I think it just could be a combo. of being 'glutenized' & pushing myself even long after I had no energy left. I look foward to the days of no more pain. Thanks for all the encouragment & good advice.
