Thought someone might like this information on food containers we found for our kids.
WalMart- has a nice stainless steel short wide mouth thermos that we like a lot, cost $15.00 (worth it). can we say cheese queso for the adults!!!!! (me at least, I am going to get me one!)
They also had cute white sandwich shape containers with polka dots on them - we liked these & got one for each kid - good for ham & cheese roll ups also. These were on an end aisle display. Something like $1.49 each. Our almost 5 year old wanted to sleep with his!!!
I really like the Ziplock disposable containers - we got a lot of the medium size rounds. We used these to put scoops of ice cream in & label with masking tape & a marker to put in the freezer. My grandson's teacher has a small refrig with freezer in her room & he can put his ice cream in there every morning. My dil has busy mornings so we just did a week of these at a time & put in the freezer.
I like the small round rubbermaid containers for things like ketchup. A little sturdier than the disposable containers.
At the Container store - we found a nice lunch kit - that was not cutsy & not too big for a small child - but large enough to hold some thermoses & other things.
Also at the container store we found a blue (also in red) thermos that has a nice drinking glass as the lid & the stopper has a place for a cookie or snacks. The thermos was wide mouth & we really liked it for milk or juice as the glass was short & sturdy as was the thermos to guard against spills.
We also found a small wide mouth thermos that had a folded spoon & fork in a recessed part of the lid. The nine year old really liked this the "cool" factor!
For Easter these kids had already gotten those wide mouth water bottles that do not absorb oders etc. The Easter Bunny got the small ones & found the covers at REI. The covers are insulated & zip at the top. The Grandmother Easter Bunny does not go anywhere without hers. You can fill them up with ice for no charge at the gas station!!!!!
we also got some glass pyrex small bowls with the blue lids to put leftovers in for a meal for a kid & then pop it into the freezer. marked contents on masking tape & put on the lid. If they are going anywhere - dil can just pull one from the freezer & heat in any microwave - with a paper towel covering the top. I cook a lot - so I do this all the time for my food. Just remember potatoes do not freeze well. I like the glass because I do not like to heat things in the microwave in plastic.
I keep my small insulated bag filled with portions of nuts, raisins, chips, & salad dressing, plus silverware, napkins, & a knife for fruit & cheese. Then when I am going somewhere all I need to do is to pop in leftovers or fruit etc. |
