LOL Sure NOW ya tell me
Yes, I did find one. I liked it. I don't think Peg cared too much for it. She had had some at a bar recently and was comparing it to that. I suspect it was a bit to "winey" for her. I probably should've added a bit more sugar and or Ginger Ale. Since I was scaling up the recipe, I didn't really have a clue as to the exact amounts were supposed to go in. I had Peg taste it, and she signed off on it at the time.
I have to keep trying... _________________ Al

Here's one I found at epicurious.com. It seems to have gotten pretty good ratings, read the reviews before making it though. The pub date is 1973 which leaves me to question the authenticity of the recipe. It too calls for club soda, but I can't remember ever having sparkling sangria. Hmm? |

Sorry, Al! Somehow I missed this post. This recipe looks really good, though.
I've never had a sangria that was carbonated, either, TEC. It is supposed to be a punch-type thing, but I suppose there are tons of variations. |

I saw several that had 7up or Ginger ale. Plus different booze too.
looking at TEC's find - I did not use anywhere near 1 cup of sugar. I had 1.5 liter bottle and 750 ml bottle
I've never had it, so I don't know what it's supposed to taste like. I prefer sour drinks, so I was fine for me. _________________ Al

Normally it's tastes like a slightly sweet, fruity red wine with the addition of some fresh fruit. It's definitely made in advance because the fruit almost always takes on a red hue.
I just looked in the tapas cookbook that I have and there's not a recipe listed. Go figure! Joy of Cooking came through with a recipe...
Sangria
"An adaptation of a favorite Spanish summer thirstquencher, to be served iced from a pitcher."
Mix:
3/4 cup brandy
1/2 cup Cointreau
4 cups red wine
Juice of 3 lemons
Sugar to taste
Add:
2 thinly sliced oranges
1 thinly sliced lemon
3/4 cup seeded sweet cherries
1 cup sliced fresh or canned peaches
I think one of the 'grocery store brands' of wine markets an inexpensive 'sangria wine.' Don't know what it tastes like though. Two Buck Chuck would be perfect since you'll be doctoring it up. |
