So far I have had pretty good luck dining out.

My friend took me out to lunch to a fancy french restaurant. I called ahead and spoke to them about gf. They said no problem we do it all the time (separate pans etc.), they seemed to know a lot.

When I got there the chef/owner came out introduced himself said he could adjust almost everything on the menu for me, just let him know what I wanted. I showed him my dining card. He really talked the talk Rolling Eyes .

We had a wonderful meal, a smoked salmon appetizer, a nice bottle of wine. I had lobster and scallops over a bed of spinach it was great until I got to the bottom of the spinach and there they were - 2 SPAGHETTI NOODLES Shocked . Now mind you, I have eaten almost the whole plate. I informed the waiter, who got the chef. We are so sorry, it normally is served over noodles, there were two orders going out at once, yours was cooked in a separate pan (blah, blah, blah) BUT the servers must have used the same tongs and the noodles stuck to them.

I explained that even a small amount could make me very ill, the response was - we have benedryl in the back. I informed them that it was not that kind of ill, it would come later.

A $200+ lunch and all they could say was sorry and here is our business card, call us if you have a problem later. I told my friend that they certainly did not seem to concerned and I was upset. My friend did not want to address it any further "after all it is only a noodle". (Second disappointment of the day - After all the celiac discussions, my friend still did not get it).

It is the first "obvious" problem I have had (not to mention the most expensive meal) and was very disappointing. You would think that you would be "safer" in a small, service orientated place but not necessarily so.

You are always taking a chance.

P.S. I did not get "obviously" ill. I am still fairly new to the GF , only since August. I do not know if I have been "glutened" and really do not know what I will feel like if I get "glutened".

That really sucks. Sad I hate it when people think just 2 noodles won't make a difference. Just like a couple of peanuts won't make a difference to a person with a nut allergy. Rolling Eyes I would've given the card back, told the manager they're all feathers and no bird, and never go there again. If you're really feeling mean you could tell them you notified your popular CD board about how bad the experience was.
