Okay, so I have not had time to change physicians...and my current physician is a moron is some respects. He looked at me 8 months ago when I asked him for the celiac blood panel and he said "no, you do not have Celia c Disease".
Anyway. I had to go to him b/c I came down with the flu after my husband gave it to me (the joys of marriage!). So I told him I was diagnosed with Celiac. He said "oh yeah. A buddy of mine in college had it. But he is fine now and it's gone". A PHYSICIAN!!!!! Tomorrow, I get the name of a new one and transfer all my records!
Also my step-grandmother told me her daughter had it as a child, but outgrew it. I saw her daughter on saturday and we started talking. I told her that if she had a wheat-allergy, there is a chance she outgrew it, but if it is Celiac, then she still has it. This is correct right? You don't outgrow Celiac Disease, right? She asked me if this is why she has such bad eczema...I said it is quite possible. She told me she is going to be getting the testing done again when she gets home....and she will be calling me for information after. I'm going to be sending her right here!
SOOOOO much misinformation...it's scary really. _________________ JAZ |

Hey, at least you're getting through to the daughter! I can't believe your doctor said that. Send me some of that fairy dust he must be using!  _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={

I met a "physician" that claims they CURE celiac.
Needless to say, that is why I put "physician" in quotes. They claim to do it through some holistic medicine methods, and by slowly re-introducing gluten to a person's diet. I told them that is insane, and that if they "cured" someone this way, it was because the patient never had CD to begin with. They actually argued with me that they really did cure someone. Well, either PROVE it, and show you can do it in controlled clinical trials, or give up your medical license is what I thought about it. _________________ Mike

hey,
im also very confused here....i dint get the part of how a person can out grow wheat allergy but not celiac disease....doesnt wheat allergy also mean that a persons system doesnt accept gluten.....and if yes then how is this wheat allergy cured....
and i was also very frustrated at the time of my diagnosis because this in one disease that doctors really dont know about.....the worst part was when they d ask wat this is....so from that point of view we have to be very careful ourselves and avoid messups.....
over here homeopathic treatment was also considered to be a cure for CD and the doctor claimed that he cud do it....i dont know how ppl make such claims...tc _________________

One can outgrow allergies. I have had severe allergies since I was two. I am literally allergic to almost EVERYTHING. The last time I had a scratch test done (about 3 years ago), the nurse was suprised at how fast I reacted. The only things I was NOT allergic to were pigweed (a relative of amaranth), tomatoes, oranges and milk (I am lactose intolerant though). However, some of my allergies seem to have slowed down and I don't react as much as I used to. As far as I know, and from what I have been told, you can out grow your allergies. I have not. I am allergic to chicken believe it or not, but I can still eat it...I think years of eating it built up my immune system. Though, one time I ate food that I always ate and I had a severe allergic reaction. My entire body became red and broke out in hives. I was about 12 and on allergy shots, but for some reason, that day, it affected me.
However, from everything I have read, researched and learned about Celiac, you DO NOT outgrow it. You have it for life.
Hmmm...this has me thinking...off to research allergies some more.... _________________ JAZ |
