| I have had symptoms that were previously diagnosed as irritable bowel for thirteen years now. When I was twenty I started experience skin problems, hate to say it but on my nipples. The doctor just gave me a steriod and thought nothing else of it. I ended up having a miscarriage at four months. A few months later I was pregnant again and put on bed rest for almost the whole pregnancy due to bleeding. After my son was born I notced I started to have a skin rash on my legs that was red and itchy. The doctor gave me a medicine for eczema. Within weeks of my son being born my legs would just give out when I was standing without reason. I went to my doctor, an endocronologist, a neurologist, and another specialist I cannot think of right now. No one could find anything. My son as an infant had severe breathing diffculties, which I do not know if they are related to celiac disease. Within a year I was having pain in my wrists, and yet again no one could figure out why, not even my orthopedic doctor. I then became pregnant with my second son, and ate wheat thins like they were air. After I had my son I started feeling depressed, of course exhausted, I had low iron levels, and my skin rash was now unbearable. I had the view on while my oldest son was running aroung the house, and I was caring for the baby, and caught a part of the view describing what celiac disease symptoms were. Wow! I feel like that. I went to the doctor, he said I needed to be on an antidepressant and was prescribing me a medicine for eczema. I said I wanted to be tested for celiac disease, he assured me I did not have it. i gave him the paperwork I had printed off the internet and repeated that I wanted to bwe tested. My tests came back that I was positive for celiac disease, showed irregularities in both my liver and thyroid. I switched doctors and am still trying to learn about celiac disease.... |

Good for you for being persitent! You can learn a lot here. Welcome.
It's amazing how anti-depressants are the cure for all of our ills, eh? I went as far as actually picking up the prescription (this was after a year of my doc bugging me to go on them), then, in a clear, non-emotional moment, decided that there was no way I was getting on that roller coaster. Four days later I was fortunate enough to figure out that gluten was not my friend. _________________ Nance
