Hi there.....

We were concerned that although my daughter is doing MUCH better on the strict GF diet, there are still times when she just does not feel "right". Vague though it is, we wanted to get allergy tests to see if there were other foods bothering her.

We got the whole batch of allergy tests and nothing showed up at all. So no food allergies....

But around that same time I figured out (and the allergist confirmed) that food sensitivities are different and CANNOT be tested for!

I just wanted to share that with all you folks. And I'm sure most if not all of you knew it already.

I guess I am glad we ruled out allergies, but I'm still left wondering why my daughter still feels gassy and yucky at times. I'm quite sure it is not CC or errors in the diet because her 6 month blood test came out clean, so we must be on the right track.

If she does have food sensitivities however, I don't know any easy way of tracking them down... any bright thoughts out there?

PS - I don't call the total elimination diet easy!

Please be careful with those detox diets. IMHO children shouldn't be on them. They're still growing; why deprive them of the nutrition their bodies need?

Two words for you: food journal. Smile Write down everything she eats, the time, and even the manufacturer (if you're worried about GF or CC issues). Then note when the tummy problems flare up.

Edited to add a bit more info for you:

Quote:
The Master Cleanse -- also known as the Lemonade Diet -- dates back to the 1970s. But it got a publicity boost recently when pop star Beyoncé Knowles lost 20 pounds in 10 days on the diet to slim down for a role in the upcoming film Dreamgirls. The news caused a sales upswing of the pricey maple syrup that's used in the lemonade.

But Knowles soon regained the weight after she finished shooting the film. In interviews, she warned ordinary dieters away from the regimen.

A healthy, young woman like Knowles may be able to endure even the strictest diet for a short while, Pressman tells WebMD. The problem is that some groups may suffer severe adverse effects from highly restrictive diets. They include children and teenagers, pregnant or breastfeeding women, seniors, and people with heart disease, diabetes, or other chronic conditions. These groups are especially vulnerable to intestinal and even cardiac problems stemming from malnutrition, Pressman says.

The above section talks about using said diets for weight loss, but the rest of the article talks about using them to "detox the body".
