I wish I was close enough to give you a real life hug! My heart really goes out to you! I take MrP's vitamins and pain pills apart and put it in his drink or on his bread or in his cereal.

we found that he does better using the Sugar in the raw. No paper products used with his food or drinks........This includes half and half. (just touching the package, makes him break out.) I found that those containers are made from corn.

We found a local dairy that sells non-homogenized milk and I buy that for him to use. (In most milk, the process of homogenization and adding the vitamins has some type of corn to process.)

I also went to looking into the rice. I do not buy any 'enriched' rices. I buy those that list the ingredients as only RICE.

I know how frustrating it is for you because I see what MrP goes through on a daily basis.

You might want to even investigate your dish soap and your shampoo or anything else you put on your body. We use Miracle II for his shower and shampoo. (it also makes a great cleaner..........1 tsp to a mop bucket and it really cleans the floor!)

Do you find that even the smells of the foods that you can't have that are corn based or other wise bother you and set off your symptoms? If so, you need to look at sulfites.

We have to have pretty much a chemical free house.

I am glad that your school at home is going well! that is a special time your kids will grow up to hold special to their memories.

Take care and please keep me updated on how you are doing. If I can be of any help, let me know and maybe we can toss some ideas around!
The Lord knows how many mistakes we have made and we had to learn by trial and error. Those verses are good ones to cling to. I sometimes wonder why all we have is going on, but I know it will all come out to the good!

Kristie, I am WAY behind on my reading and just now saw this thread. I am so sorry for what you are going through. I really hope things can stabilize for you. I don't know about you, but having my children home with me is such a comfort. I hope it is the same for you. Family is everything. I'm praying for you!

Hi Kristie,
I saw your post and had to write to let you know that I do understand what you're going through. Ive got 6 kids and we've all got celiac and various food allergies as well as to latex, chemicals and environmental too. You can read my recent post on the General Discussion board if you like. I found out I had celiac about 5 years ago and quickly developed leaky gut syndrome,a host of autoimmune diseases and worsening food allergies. Ive had allergy testing that came back negative because I was on steroids and no one told me the tests get altered; so thinking I had none, ate shrimp and was taken by ambulance for anaphlyactic reaction at home during my 5 yr old sons birthday party. I took everything out of my diet and tried things one at a time in their purest form, like a bowl of brown rice. If nothing happened at the first bite, I ate a little more, and a bit more. I cant eat brown rice because it kills my stomach, but if I have a bit of it in my flour mix I make, its ok for me. One of my youngests is allergic to corn, chicken, eggs, berries, citrus, dairy, fish, bacon, and gluten as well as all the cillins and grasses too. Someone suggested that you cook with egg whites, please dont if eggs make you sick. The egg white is where the protein is in the egg which is what makes the person allergic. There are substitutes for eggs like: l 1/2 Tbsp oil, 1 l/2 Tbsp water and l tsp of baking powder=1 egg. 1 cup of boiling water, 2 tsp of plain gelatin mixed together. Take 3 l/2 tbsp of that mixture = l egg. They also sell Egg Replacer in the health food stores too by EnerG. I can tend to talk too much sometimes so if you let me know what you need, I will be glad to help you. You can email me here or personally momof6incfl@yahoo.com.
Ok, the kids are all busy and quiet so Im going to tell you what worked for me, where I think you can help the most and fastest. You might want to print this out!
Ive got Refractory Sprue now and my case is a bit more complicated as many of my organs have been effected. Ive also got DH, and a bunch of autoimmune diseases. Im pretty good at changing recipes to fit our family's needs and they taste pretty good. Other kids end up liking theirs which can be a problem because they eat their food then our kids too and thats something we're trying to address! I also homeschool my kids, they are l7, l3, l0, 9, 7, and 5. They've been gf for almost as long as I have been. Some have epi pens and most have ashtma and are on meds for that. My littlest was born with lots of problems because I was so sick during the pregnancy. Shes doing great now that shes on the right diet. Im also a researcher, I need to find out all I can and try to fix it. Ive read so many books, and I can tell you the best one that has helped our family the most is Breaking The Vicious Cycle by Elain Gottshall. I have not followed it exactly for all the family, but have for mysef and the ones that needed it the most. What a difference. My littlest one goes bonkers after eating a baked potato, that never made any sense until reading this book, you can get the same info on her site too, the explanation of why foods with more than one saccharide cause problems, wether it be gastro, neuro,or other. http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/beginners.htm
There is a Yahoo group also to help exchange recipes and ideas. Before following it though you really should do an Elimination Diet to find out what you're allergic or intolerant to. There is a really good book my dr. gave me called: Tracking Down Hidden Food Allergy by William G. Crook. Its really written for kids, big print, pictures, but worth it. (I only suggest when it says to eliminate wheat, that you eliminate all gluten items since they are related. some people are only allergic to wheat but to make it a complete fix, thats what you really should do kind of like eliminating milk, you need to eliminate all cassein since thats the protein in dairy, including goat and buffalo milk. ) You could see if your local library has it, but I have seen it in Health food stores. The other book that has helped immensely is Prescription for Nutritional Healing by Phyllis A. Balch. It is a wealth of information and how to treat various ailments drug free using vitamins, minerals, herbs, food supplements and diets. I got that at a health food store and it was $24 for a huge book:776 pages, like an encyclpedia, but very easy to read and understand and you just go to whatever it is you need to find out about. That book has a great chapter on food allergies and a chart to help you find out what they are. Once you have that down and a list of what foods to eat, making a menu and recipes will be easy. I only drink coffee in the morning(I use soy milk)and water all day. Im overweight because I have Hashimotos, so though I practically starve, and eat mostly raw veggies, very little grains, I dont lose, thats really frustrating! Tonight we made eggplant pizza and the kids loved it, we used pepperoni, sauce, and a bit of cheddar. Cheddar is one of the easiest to digest as is swiss and havarti. My littlest needs to be on a cassein and gluten free diet due to seizures, sensory integration disorder, and other problems shes got. We followed the suggestions in Breaking The Vicious Cycle and let her try those cheeses, just a little at a time and shes doing great with them. Its so nice because soy cheese just doesnt melt. I used to put zucchini on her pizzas so it looked liked everyone elses. I put it on the others too, only hid it under their cheese! I still do, only now I can add her cheese. One other thing that I couldnt live without is my VitaMix. It looks like a blender but does so much more. https://secure.vitamix.com/acb/stores/4/Vita-Mix-Super-5000-P380C64.aspx I make everything in there, flours from beans, rices, tapioca pearls, condimints, puddings, even rice milk. Rice Dream by the way has barley malt so its not GF.
My little one needs me to help her get ready for bed. Let me know what I can do to help. I know after being sick for 9 years, going to every dr. between Boca Raton and Jacksonville, including Shands and the Mayo Clinic, these ideas do work and will help you. All the drs shook their heads and couldnt figure out what was going on or disbelieved because I dont look like Ive got celiac(though I really do with all these skin sores, theyve never seen that before and because I refused to go off the GF diet. If I touch crumbs, I get a skin sore that night, if I breathe it in like at a subway, I have a severe ashtma attack. Im ultra sensitive. They said I wouldnt get better, that the autoimmune diseases would just spiral out of control and the diet was too difficult to stick to and I couldnt be following it. they were wrong. Ive got Refractory Sprue now and am being sent to Boston, Beth Israel Hospital has a celiac center. Ive finally found a gastro who knows about celiac this last month and Ive stayed GF 100% proven by labs so I know my stuff. Im pretty frugal too, with my husband out of work so much due to me in and out of the hospital so much, Ive got to be, plus with feeding 8 people with special needs, even more reason to be frugal and with these health issues,we need to be eating as healthy as possible. Im not able to do the vitamins and supplements but believe in eating as close to what God made as possible. Theres food out there for you! Dont despair. Its a tough road you're on, but it can be done. Have faith and dont give up.
James l:26 "Consider it pure joy,my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Persevereance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who dbuts is like a wae of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind."
Take care Kristi and God bless! Lynne Smile
