Ok, I have a question...I have been eating Think Thin bars for a while now, and lately, I have been having a wee bit of an *issue* with them every time I eat them. Specifically, the big D...and I can't quite figure it out. Especially because I have been eating them for quite a while now without a problem. And I am quite sure it is them I am reacting to because I have been trying to figure it out all week and they are the common element...

The wrappers actually say "gluten free" right on them, BUT they are "manufactured in a facility that also processes wheat, soy, milk, eggs, and nuts, etc." Could I be becoming that sensitive? This may sound like a dumb question, but any ideas here guys?

Here is the ingredient list for my favorite flavor:
Protein blend (calcium caseinate, whey protein isolate, soy protein isolate), glycerin, coating (maltitol, cocoa butter, chocolate liquor, sodium caseinate, dairy oil, soya lecithin, natural flavors, salt), maltitol syrup, cocoa powder, water, ground almonds, soy crisps (soy protein isolate, rice flour, calcium carbonate), canola oil, chocolate liquor, soya lecithin, tricalcium phosphate, natural flavors, salt. Vitamins and Minerals: ascorbic acid, d-alpha tocopherol, niacinamide, zinc oxide, vitamin A palmitate, electrolytic iron, calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, copper gluconate, riboflavin, thiamin mononitrate, folic acid, biotin, potassium iodide, vitamin B12. Contains milk, soy and almonds.

Hmmm, you're sure there aren't any more common elements in your diet? The only thing I can think of is CC, but it says GF on the box....

It could be the malitol, many of the sugars that end in "ol" can cause a laxative effective in large amounts or people who are sensitive. Thats why they put the warnings on eating too much sugar free candy. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Well, the only thing I ate today was GF waffles (way earlier this morning) and then I had one of those bars a little while ago. Immediately after the bar, I had to run to the potty...Embarassed

The only thing I could think of was CC, too, but I haven't had an issue with it before...unless I've developed some other kind of reaction, for example, to soy or something like that...hmm...I think this may require some further investigation...

Interesting, Kathie...maybe it's the maltitol...

Torrey,
Have you changed anything else in your diet -- started taking new vitamins (or started taking the ones hidden in your cupboard Wink ). I started taking a fish oil supplements a couple weeks ago. I had to cut back on the dosage as it seemed they had some unwanted side affects at the higher dosage.
Just a shot in the dark.

Torrey - I like the Think bars too, but sometimes they don't like me.
I believe it could be CC, or the malitol, hard to say.
Have you been having one each day this week? I tend to have problems when I eat more than one a week.

I did some reading about maltitol. More than likely, It's the culprit. It causes intestinal upsets and diarrhea sometimes.

It says 2g on the label...why? Would that have something to do with a reaction?

I was thinking...if that bar had a lot of fiber...and you weren't used to a lot of fiber...it would send you running to the bathroom since fiber is doing it's thing.

But, 2g of fiber isn't a great deal.

Ah, I see...hmm...I am thinking it must be the maltitol...those faux sugars can't really be good for us, anyway. Wink
The Pure Fit bars are pretty good, and I don't think those have a CC issue...maybe I will switch to those. Smile

Thanks to all of you for your help! Very Happy

Maltitol usually hits me pretty hard. However, I just bought some think thin bars the other day, and they are waiting for me to test them. Let's see, shall we Wink
