Saw this place last night on the Travel channel and just had to share. There's a place called Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston, MO. Apparently they throw dinner rolls at your head. Can you imagine trying to be GF in a place like that?

Ahhhhhglutenonmyfacegetitoffgetitoffgetitoff

Apparently in Sikeston every year the cops "arrest" a traveling family and force them to attend the local rodeo. Might be a good place to avoid in general. Wink

Maybe the town should be named "Yikes town" instead of Sikeston! Wink

Good NGF Dinner Rolls & Gravy!! I've been to Sikeston! It was long ago in a lifetime far far away. It's not to far from Lilbourn, MO. I was visiting a friend that was interning at the Delmo Housing Corporation in Lilbourn.

Oh gosh...what trip down memory lane...

I'll know now not to go back to Sikeston!!

Wow!!! We just ate there the other night!
And yes, they do throw rolls - "Home of the Throwed Rolls"

We were seated safely in a corner away from the flying gluten. I didn't know Dad would be joining us for dinner when I chose Lambert's. There aren't many (any) GF safe restaurants in Sikeston, and we had to eat. Dad took his chances and ordered plain ham, and a baked sweet potato. His ham came in a 14" skillet and was hanging over the edge; there must have been 2 lbs of meat! He was mildly sick the next day.

But I certainly wouldn't recommend someone with CD eating there on purpose.

We'll be going through Sikeston on the way to Cape Girardeau for a Dr's appointment Monday afternoon. We'll forego Lambert's and eat at the Outback. Yay! (A 100 mile drive to get to the nearest restaurant with a GF menu. You gotta love living in the middle of nowhere!)

That's a good point.

What do you do if you're in the middle of nowhere and need to eat GF? (Say you forgot to pack GF snacks.) Wing it?

The closest I've come to having to wing it was the last time we went home. If I can't find a restaurant with a GF menu or GF options, basically, I look for salads (with my own dressing), breakfast food (if I feel like the manager is well-enough versed to understand the needs), etc.

I've also fallen back onto Thai and Indian before, since both tend to have very little wheat/barley/etc involved except for obvious places (naan, etc.).

I sure would not want to eat there. Shocked
