Well, I did it. I went to the doctor today to ask to be tested. I prayed that I would be able to express myself intelligently and completely and that I didn't look/sound or be perceived as a hypochondriac. Yes, my prayer was answered.

I started out telling her about my initial wondering about lactose intolerance and why that didn't add up. Went on with how I do what any normal American does when faced with health issues - turn to the internet. Very Happy (she understood!) Then I mentioned CD and said it's not as rare as people think and it might explain my other problems, etc. And threw in there that almost 40% of celiacs are overweight. She was nodding in agreement the whole time. She said she's had one. One. (she emphasized "one") patient with CD, but the diet made such a huge difference. And she told me there is a range of severity in the disease as well.

She asked if I had tried the GF diet. I told her that with all the challenges the diet presents (she interrupted me to tell me gluten was in EVERYTHING - yea, so I've heard Smile ), that I knew me and I would likely do the diet half-heartedly unless I knew for sure that I MUST.

She then brought up the biopsy and said we'd do bloodwork first. (whew!) She started mentioning the tests, trying to remember which they were. I told her I had typed out that I pulled from the internet. She asked to see it and started glancing at it and my notes as well. She said she had to sit and read and excused herself for a few. WOW! I mean, I knew she was cool. But now I'm in awe!

She gave me a lab slip for the 4 tests I learned about on this forum (thank you all) and off I went to get my blood drawn. They should have the results in a week-ish. Now, my prayer is the lab does the right tests and does them correctly!

Thanks to those who've been patiently answering my questions. And thanks for letting my share my joy today too! My Doc Rocks! Very Happy

Sounds like you had a great visit. I hope the bloodwork gives you some answers - positive or negative. I'm glad you took the plunge and asked your doctor about CD.

Keep us in the loop when you get your results.
