|
|
As a way to encourage my youngest to be prompt about getting up and around for school, I've offered to take her to a local coffee shop before we head to school in the morning if she's ready in time.
Of course, that brings up the question of, what do I need to worry about (besides the muffins) if I'm ordering a caffe latte at a local (non-Starbucks) coffee shop. ANuthing I should be sure to ask?
TIA,
Ewan |

Hi Ewan,
Maybe some of our coffee experts will chime in here. I don't drink the stuff, so I don't know all the finer points.
Plain coffee is GF.
Flavored coffee maybe GF depending on what they put in the flavoring. You need to know what the flavoring is.
Latte, I'm going to guess is milk. Pure milk is GF.
Also, you'd really want to go in to the shop at an off peak time and ask some questions. That way, you're not rushed and more important, the barista is not rushed They'd have time to show you labels or try to find the answers for you.
How possible would it be for a crumb of muffin to drop in to your cup of caffe latte? This is something you might want to pay attention to. Just sit back and watch where things are located, how they're handled, etc.
I hope your child is not in grade school...and thus wired on coffee before her 1st class LOL!!! _________________ Al

Last grade of middle school, which is a bit early still, but worth it if we can avoid the more frequently occurring last minute rush to get to school on time... |

Most Latte's are fine - but you'll have to ask questions about any syrups they put in the coffee to flavor it. (Torani Vanilla Syrup is GF - not sure about the other flavors) Also you'll need to find out what they use for hot chocolate or mocha's because depending on what chocolate powder they're using you could get sick. Need to double check the brand of whipped cream too if that's something you opt for.
I wouldn't worry too much about crumbs getting in your coffee - it's a long shot but of course keep your eyes peeled for cross contamination. I've found it's not usually an issue. But if it seems even a remote possibility be sure to mention it and get a fresh cup so you don't get sick.
I hope your "trick" works - my mom used to have practically strip the sheets off the bed and tilt the whole thing over and shake me off to get me going in the morning... lol. _________________ Cheers!

| Check their website, but if you have a Caribou coffee nearby, all their syrups are currently GF. I've been warned off the blender drinks, though, so I didn't research that further. |
