HELP! I am in WDW and I have been sick every single morning I have had a GF/DF waffle. I looked at the ingredients they used and they are the same I use in my own cooking. Now we are trying to figure out what went wrong. Arrowroot Mills claims to be a GF product, but from what I've seen in markets they also process things containing gluten. Anyone else have an issue with this? If not it's in for corn and egg allergy testing!
Thanks in advance!

Hi Kristi,

Sorry to hear you are sick at Disney Sad It's no fun anytime, but worse on vacation.

Are these waffles ones that you brought with you or did they come from WDW?

I don't know much about Arrowroot Mills- but it maybe possible a contamination issue. Is this the 1st time you've had their product?

Is there any soy in them?

Hope you feel better soon!!

They made them for me! The only thing in them was rice flour, potato starch, tapiocia starch all of which I use at home. As well as corn flour and cinnamon, again stuff I use at home. They used lactaid milk and honey in them as well. So I can't see anything in them to be making me sick. Though I did look up the company online and they also process oats and buckwheat.

Right now we have me off gluten, corn, dairy and eggs until I can get home and get tested at the end of the month!

Have you told them they have made you sick? I would appropriately bring it up to them. They might want to know that..others maybe getting sick too.

Hang in there!! Say Hi to Mickey for me Very Happy

Yep we told them a two days ago when we realized what on earth was making me so sick. They are bringing it to their bosses attention, but they say no one else has complained. Mom isn't sick so I know it's not a flu and it only happens when I eat the waffles!!!

Maybe I can actually get to see Mickey tomorrow! (We've been here since the 5th and since the morning of the 6th I've been sick on and off lol)

Maybe it was the milk? Someone here said Lactaid doesnt help, because the milk protien is causing the problem.

Don't know if I understood the sequence of events right, but if Arrowhead Mills makes a mix (not premade waffles?) and if WDW used it to make waffles for you, could it be that they made the waffles on a waffle-iron that had been used for regular gluten-containing waffles?

I think many restaurants, even when trying to be aware of our GF needs, cross-contaminate. They simply don't understand that even a few molecules of this stuff is bad for us.

I was at a Mexican restaurant a month ago, and as my husband and I were walking out, I was silently congratulating myself on making sure I had gotten a tasty GF meal with corn tortillas. Then we walked by the kitchen, where there was a big open grill where cooks were warming tortillas, corn and flour alike, side by side on the same grill. AAAAAACCKKK!

Hope you feel better after your "waffle" experience!

well all turned out well! They found some Vans GF frozen waffles for me! From what I understood they had an iron dedicated to GF waffles so that should not have been the issue.

I am feeling much better now and know more for my next trip!

Hi Kristi,

Glad to hear you're feeling better! Very Happy

Did you ever find in exactly why those waffles were causing problems?

Linea - Hi...thanks for checking in!!

no idea! I see the Dr Monday to have corn allergy testing done, but I don't think that is it as I have eaten corn products since and been fine. I wouldn't blame that so much if it was only me but my mom was sick too! And Arrowhead mills isn't on the CSA approved list I checked it today!

Do you think it was only the waffles?

Yep! Every morning I ate them I got sicker, when I ate eggs I was fine when I skipped breakfast I was fine. Only thing it could have been and it hit about 30mins after I ate it, which is how long it usually takes with being glutened! Mom only ate them one morning and after that was fine.
