Hi All,
I recently came across this site & would appreciate if anyone has any ideas.

Twenty years ago dgnsd. with IBS. Controlled pretty well.
Four years ago treated for Breast Cancer/hormonal. Tomoxifen & then Rimidex had to come off due to bad side effects. Main thing was painful/tingling joints & very painful feet as though walking on stones/difficulty in walking. Dgnsd as Fibromyalgia & treated with Amytriptylene. Oct/04 Eye test borderline for Glaucoma. Came off Amytrip. Since then everythings gone haywire +++.

I noticed numbness of lt.Gt. toe & then other toes both feet. Diahorrhea became worse & very cold feeling in both feet as though in buckets of cold water. Cold weather effects badly. Base of spine painful & sciatica. MRI of spine two months ago normal.
Saw a Colon Dr. few days ago awaiting Barium enema & poss. CT. Blood tests for Coeliac & few others
Over the past months everyone looks at me as though Iam mad when I try to explain about the PN. It is now in my hands. Have started taking multi-vits & a GF diet.
Sorry to have gone on but the PN is upsetting (among other symptoms)

    Hi Georgie,

    Welcome...glad you found us!

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I too have PN - so I know what you speak of Smile Stones and all Laughing Even the "I think you're nuts" looks, sadly enough.

All too often, our problems are tossed into the IBS diagnosis. The doc don't know enough to look further. That's why these boards are nice - the patients can educate themselves and be their own advocate.

You said they tested you for Celiac...do you have the results back yet?

It is possible that your PN is caused by CD. There are definate links to Fibro and gluten. People have had complete relief from their fibro once they eliminated gluten. Hmmm, some cancers can cause PN as well as some caner treatments. Did you notice this after your treatments?
Do you know if they checked your B-12 level? Neurological problems can also come from B-12 deficiency. Certainly if you have celiac - you are not absorbing nutrients properly. It's also possible the PN maybe caused by medication. I am not familiar with those meds or their side effects.

If you are looking for further info on PN the Braintalk PN discussion board is good. The B12 is discussed there at length. A gal by the name of Rose is the B12 expert.

The Braintalk Celiac and Gluten Sensitivty board is also good! If you've look around here, I'm sure you've seen the links Smile

Wish you well, let us know how your tests come out!

    Hi Aklap, Smile
Thank you for you reply & the sites you gave.
In response to you queries my Bloods for CD were only taken Thurs. 12th May not sure if B-12 taken & then I have a few other tests to take.
As far as the cancer concern mine was stage 1 without lymph involvement.
I commenced tamoxifen (anti oestregen drug) May 2001 & by Oct.01 could hardly walk. G.P. said it was because I had put on a lot of weight/meds. I knew it wasn't. Previously I had been able to walk my Dogs for miles. Contacted oncology who agreed probelms due to Tamoxifen & then pres. Rimidex/aromatase inhibitor. Just as bad. Came off May/04. Amytriptylene is pres. for depression but they found it works well for Fibromyalgia & nerve endings. Over the past three 7 a half yrs I have had dreadful problems with painful feet & no one could understand what I was talking about. (A Nuerotic patient with Fibromyalgia doesn't know what they are talking about.!!!) Since I came off Amytrip everything just blew up. I feel that I have had problems for a while but the meds just hid it.
Ihave lost 17lbs in weight & have a lot of problems with P.N. most of the time my feet are so "dead/cold" but hurt.
The good thing is since looking at the site I have put myself on GF diet, today is 3rd day & I can feel a slight improvement in abdo pain & no diahorrhea. Trying for small meals regular intervals.
Sorry once again to go on but its wonderful to have contact with people who understand.

I a newbie here , and will be posting a similar question. Though not identical, there are similarities.
I thought i had chrons disease, i was so ill with bowel movements and g.i. problems, then i started getting neuropathy in my arms and shoulders, as well as my leg. This has settled down a bit to go to both feet. My feet feel like they are burning, with sensations down a leg or both legs. The diarhea
stopped, but the stool remains soft and messy. Ive been ill like this for a year and went through most of the blood tests and scopes etc. with no diagnosis. This all lead to panic and depression, and the almost loss of my business. The funny thing about mine is, even if my feet are not burning, as soon as i have a bowel movement they start killing me. I must have a switch down there they didnt see. I have gone somewhat gluten free(i know), but the thing that made the biggest difference was cutting out sweets, sugar. This made the stool firmer and more regular. But each time i go, the feet will start burning. Anyone have and ideas?
Also i was wondering if you have any connection with
hurting your spine, neck, or lumbar (even though the mri was good)
    panic attacks?
I wish you the best, neuropathy is the worst.

    Hi Aklap, Laughing

You recently replied to my posting

Hmmm, some cancers can cause PN as well as some cancer treatments. Did you notice this after your treatment?

Tonight I have found on another Breast Cancer Forum that Tamoxifen can cause drug induced PN. I only took it for about 8 mths & I am still suffering 4yrs later.

I realised that Chemo. could be a cause but no-one would admit to Tamoxifen!!!

    Take care georgie. Smile
