I was hungry before I was diagnoised. I couldn't get filled up but as soon as I went on the gluten free diet that soon subsided. I love Kinnikinnick bread. I buy the sandwich bread, both white & dark. Also love the raisian tapioca rice & the tapioca rice bread. I always toast mine which makes it easier to eat. I don't know which one's you have tried. Hope this helps.

YES! It is the same here. I have been off gluten for 5 weeks, and I have been so hungry since then that I found I had to eat every 2 hours! or else I'd get faint. I am doing much better now and the hunger is not so frequent! I had a growling tummy almost immediately after eating and felt hungry and empty again. But I find that eating smaller meals of whole foods (meat, veggies and rice) at frequent intervals keeps my energy from crashing. I do have to say though, it gets better even if it feels like forever! Keep it up and maybe concentrate on the quality of food not so much the quantity right now. I think our bodies can only benefit from what we actually digest and that may mean slowing down on the harder to digest stuff. (I found that sweet potatoes and broccoli and some red meat worked well and also snacking on sunfower seeds or nuts is helpful, oh yeah, and the Amazake rice shakes from health food stores are good)
I hope you feel better soon, Hang in there!
Jeanne

It could be that you are just in the 'detox' stage. It is also the stage where you aren't really sure of all the things that are safe to eat.

Even nuts have to have the labels read. Some do put wheat in the nuts.

Make some cookies that are in the cookie forum. This will give you some 'comfort' calories.

You also need to make sure that you are taking a good multi-vitamin to fill the nutrional needs that you might be having.

If nothing else, get you some BUCKWHEAT FLOUR (not the pancake mix) and make up some pancakes from scratch. This will be a good bread source. Make sure you are getting the carbs that you need that are slower to digest. This helps to stop the hunger from coming back so fast.

Mel, hi. i was actually the opposite before going gluten free i was always hungry never being able to fill up. since gluten free i always feel full. maybe try making your own breads, experimenting with what you like. i do love the buckwheat flour, makes everything taste more real in my opinion. also try more fruits during the day. carry them with you and you will always have a healthy snack. maybe try making some of your own french fries--very filling, or baked potato(mashed potatoes) and a big fat juicy steak. i am sure that would fill anyone up Very Happy unless you are vegetarian, then get one of those veggie burgers:) sorry cant really offer more help. rice is also pretty filling.
also sometimes we think we are hungry when we are really thirsty, try to carry some water with you see if that helps. just a few thoughts:)

Are you eating enough protein? All those carbs in the bread and pasta will not stay with you for very long, and you will find yourself hungy again in short order. I try to snack on things like nuts or string cheese or Larabars because they have protein in them.

I also found the opposite, that I was always starving before going GF. It was quite a transition going GF and figuring out what to eat, so yes, even now I find times where I am starving. But it is simply because I still sometimes don't know what to eat, or have not stocked up on enough GF food. ( My own fault). I also lost weight at the beginning. More so because I didn't know what to eat.
Make sure to snack on lots of simple things, fruit, veggies, have GF crackers on hand. And just rest assured that at least now, when you are eating you are actually nurishing your body. It will get better.
That is probably one of the more difficult things about living GF--you have to always be prepared, food always has to be in the back of your mind. At least for me still does. On that note, I'm hungry...see ya later!
