OK, got back from the doc and here's something to know about Librax.
He prescribed it to me and then I went online to price it as I have to pay for name brand stuff (up to $500 deductable) but only $10 for generic. Librax was just reformulated and has no generic at this time. If you call a pharmacy and try to ask for a generic, they will tell you there is none. You have to have the script written for the generic name. Which is: 5mg chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride and 2.5mg clidinium bromide.
I called up Costco pharmacy, after calling my doctor's office - they recommended Costco - and here's the difference in price:
50 Librax - $123
50 5mg chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride and 2.5mg clidinium bromide - $17.39.
Big difference!!! I called the doctor's office a second time and said, please call this in as the generic and we discussed it a bit and now they know what to do with their patients - the woman on the phone was astounded by the price differene (you'd think they'd be immune to sticker shock by now!!!)
So I'll get some in the next day or two but hopefully won't need to use it for a long time...
Thanks for the suggestion! Hope this generic info helps someone else... _________________ Stephanie |

The best medicine I have found for upset stomach is Emetrol. It tastes like cherry cough medicine. One dose usually works for me. I also use Immodium AD when I have the 'other' problem. Hope this helps. _________________ With God, all things are possible... |

| I've been looking online and I can't seem to find an 'official' drug company site for librax (it doesn't mean there isn't one.. lol.. I just can't seem to find it!) I was just looking for the info they supply the patients/doctors. I am on other meds (for unrelated things) and also have a few drug allergies.. so I just wanted to see if I could check it out before hand to see if it is worth making a doctors appointment or not. |

Ah, if I had it with me I'd post it. I got the generic (had my doc call in the generic drugs in order to get it, otherwise you won't get generic Librax) and it was fine, gluten wise. If I remember, it has gelatin, a couple of colors (it's a green capsule), maybe a dairy ingredient, and something else really basic.
Though I did find out that the anticholergenic ingredient is derrived from nightshades - something I can't eat - so I'm trying to decide if I want to take it after all this trouble I went through to get it in the first place!!! I think I'll test it on a day when I'm fine and see if it causes me any problems before taking it when I'm in trouble because I won't know then if it just isn't working or if it's making me sicker. _________________ Stephanie |

Thanx for all the info!!
I read through it all, it doesn't look like it'll be the best match for me though. I guess I'll have to stick to the pepto bismol for when I accidently have gluten stuff. I wonder if there are any natural remadies?? I think I might need to go look that up... _________________ *Wendy*

| I have had a colonoscopy and then an endoscopy this past week. My doc thinks I have celiac, my uncle and aunt both have it. I have no pain, just "D" as everyone seems to call it. Started gf Wednesday, although I'm still uncertain as to what is GF. Went to the store for the first time today looking specifically for GF stuff, and started to cry. My husband is a great support. I'm still in denial. I have an appointment on June 21 with my doctor to verify the diagnosis, but I won't wait to go GF. I've been having the "D" for three months, and have lost about 12 lbs, I am not heavy and have worked out for two years (41 y.o. female). Any ideas on everyday foods to get me through? |

Hi Patti,
Welcome to the board. Hopefully we can make the transition to the GF lifestyle as painless as possible for you Trust me, it does get easier!! I'm glad your hubby is so supportive. Support & knowledge are they key to this.
BTW - I use "D" because I'm a terrible speller and can never remember how to spell it! LOL
It's late, I'm tired...so I won't go into a lot of detail right now. I did want to make sure you saw this tho....
GF Food Survival Guide
Start with the big offenders 1st...bread, pizza, cereals, crackers, soups, cookies, cakes, oh yeah - beer. Then work you way down to the hidden stuff. I will flesh this out a bit more.
Have you seen this info we have out here? These are lists of GF food that are updated. The Delphi lists are update every month or so. The Mainstream food list gets updated every 3-4-5-6 months. Please - always verify for youself the foods in these lists - mistakes happen, products change (quickly). Always read the labels - even on things you know are/were GF:
Celiac.com safe & forbidden Ingredient Lists - Print these lists out and take them to the store with you. This will be your Bible for the next few months - until you get to know it by heart! Check EVERY item and EVERY ingredient against these lists. Yes it will take longer to shop, but after awhile you know the lists. I practically slept with these things. VERY HELPFUL!!
Delphi (another discussion board) GF lists - another discussion board like this. They have great GF food lists...but I prefer to keep other company.
Mainstream Food GF Food List - mainstream food that you should be able to find anywhere. _________________ Al
