Hi Jen! Glad to hear you are feeling better.

Hey all you mommies-to-be... congratulations!!! I wish they made a grandmother baby counter. I'm expecting my 11th grandchild in July! 3 are 'steps', but I take them any way I can get them! I love being a Nana. I get all the snuggles and cuteness, but get to sleep through the night. When I was 40 I really wanted to have another baby. Now all I can say is, like the song title, "Thank God for unanswered prayer." Laughing I'd be raising a teenager now...

It has been a long snowy winter here, and I'm tired of it!!!!!

Nearly 4 months GF. Here's my gripe for the month. I got glutened badly last week. What I ate should have been safe. I read the labels carefully, but it was a prepared food, and there must have been CC. I just wish I had a crystal ball that would tell me that I'm going to get glutened ahead of time, so that I could just have a blast, and eat whatever I've been craving, like a sub or Chinese food. By the time I realize what's happened, I'm too sick to think about food! I'm really only kidding...I would never gluten myself on purpose.

Steph

As far as for gluten containing ingredients the labeling laws only have to list wheat. So it could be that the product contained barley, rye or oats in addition to possibly being cross contaminated.

Since there are so many new to the gluten-free diet I'm going to add that if you want to know if a food is safe the best way to find out is by calling the manufacturer. Of course there are a few exceptions for the companies that will clearly list gluten-containing ingredients.

Just got back from my first prenatal ultrasound. Turns out I am further along than I thought. My husband and I thought we got pregnant on the first try - turns out it was BEFORE the first try. (His ego is all fluffed up right now...it's pretty cute!!) It was so neat to see the baby move and the little heart beat. We're going to tell everyone this weekend. We're so excited!

Other than baby stuff, this month has been pretty quiet. Morning sickness has finally settled down, so I should start gaining weight soon. Work has been slow - which is a really good thing for me at this point. I've been working from home a lot which is nice. (I work on a military base and the last thing I wanted to do was be really sick there...)

We haven't been eating out that much since I found out I was pregnant, but decided to go to Carrabba's on Sunday night since the visit with my folks went longer than we planned. I wasn't up for a lot of food, so I ordered the chicken soup, cesear salad and green beans. Ate a few spoonfuls of the soup and then found a noodle in it. I sent that bowl back and got another one hoping it was just a fluke. (They're usually pretty good there). Nope - the second bowl had it too. Luckily I didn't eat any of that one. I did ok - just really bad brain fog. I was worried about the baby though. I was relieved to see that everything looked ok today. Needless to say, we won't be going back there. Sad

Steph: are you getting slammed with snow up in Maine today? We've got it coming down in a pretty good clip her in Mass. <sigh> My mom is going to Florida for vacation next week to see my grandparents. Maybe I'll sneak into her bag. Wink

Yeah, more snow. Yippee!!! I wonder how many languages I could learn to say "I hate snow" in? My DH shoveled off the roof last weekend because of the rain we were going to get. My living room window was totally blocked with snow. I can now see out a corner of it because the snow has settled some -and it's a 63" window that starts about 4' above the ground!! Thank goodness I have 3 other windows or I'd feel like I was living in an igloo!

Very cool Manda that you're going to meet your little one sooner than you expected!

I bought salsa and guacamole at Whole Foods that were apparently made on premises, and tortilla chips that had no "made in a factory....." warning on it. There was nothing in the ingredient lists of any of the items like natural flavors, spices, etc. that set off any warning bells. Salsa and guacamole should be pretty straight-forward, so that's why I think CC. I've been very careful so far. I carry my cell phone in the grocery store so I can call a manufacturer, and if in doubt I don't buy it. When I have a choice I use a company like Kraft so I don't have to worry. I'm not sure I could have done anything else to insure my safety other than questioning the store manager re: CC issues.

I am finally getting my energy back. It has been over a month GF. I want to know if anyone has experienced dry mouth or always really thirsty. It isn't diabetes because my husband is and he checked me out. I just feel like I can't drink enough. Sad

Hi Fifi,

Glad to hear things are starting to get back to normal! Smile

Is dry mouth and thirst something new?
How much water do you drink in a day?
Are your eyes or other mucous membranes dry?
Have you had your thyroid checked?

No I haven't had my thyroid checked. I have been thirsty like this since I started to feel symptoms. I thought I was dehydrated so I spent 3 days in the hospital, but they still didn't diagnose CD. I was just wondering if it was one of the symptoms of CD since my body wasn't absorbing anything. I will definitely have my thyroid checked.
Thanks!!
